The Day I Cycled Down Bolivia's Death Road

Aug, 2014 by Dany in Bolivia A road where 200 to 300 people are killed every year. Let me repeat this: 200 to 200 people EVERY YEAR. When I read about the Death Road for the first time, I felt distressed, and was already freaked out about traveling on this road when we would make it to Bolivia. This narrow road, officially known as the Yungas Road, winds through the mountains from Bolivia’s Yungas region all the way down to Coroico in the jungle region of the Amazon. When we started to plan our trip through South America, I found out that you can now take mountain bike tours down the Yungas Road – an agonizing leisurely 40-miles (64 kilometers) bike ride along the 2,000 feet (600 meter) deep cliffs, surrounded by lush green mountains and what was supposed to be some of Bolivia’s most stunning scenery.

When I learned that the original Death Road had been replaced by a new, safer (asphalted!) A leisurely bike ride along a 2,000 feet deep cliff Fog and rain – nightmare #1. 50 Underrated Travel Blogs - Travelstart's Travel Blog. Mzansi Girl - sharing the Mzansi love. Last year I spent a few days traveling around Tuscany but I realize I didn’t share much from the journey.

Tuscany's Most Picturesque Hilltop Town: Volterra

The reason? It wasn’t my favorite place. I didn’t actually spend any time in Florence, the capital of Tuscany, but instead traveled to Pisa and some nearby villas and small hilltop towns. I was stuck with unfortunate weather during the October trip, so rather than experiencing lush, green, rolling hills, there were a lot of grey skies, muddy pathways and cold, wet days. In the end, Tuscany left me feeling slightly disappointed. Regardless, of the small Tuscan towns I visited in October, Volterra was definitely the most scenic and photogenic. Like most Tuscan cities, there’s not actually much to do in town unless you’re a fan of Renaissance history and art. And fun fact! For more about Volterra, try their official tourism website volterratur.it. 10 Traveling families to inspire you. Traveling the world with kids can be done successfully.
