One of the most important factors of any design is color. Color reflects the mood of a design and can invoke emotions, feelings, and even memories. Figuring out which colors work well with others isn’t just a matter of chance.
Primary Colors Colors start out with the basis of all colors, called the Primary Colors. Secondary Colors If you evenly mix red and yellow, yellow and blue, and blue and red, you create the secondary colors, which are green, orange and violet. Tertiary Colors Tertiary colors are made when you take the secondary colors and mix them with the primary colors. CC BY-NC-SA It is estimated that around 9 or 10 million species of animals inhabit the earth; the exact number is not known and all estimates are rough. Animals range in size from no more than a few cells to organisms weighing many tons, such as the giant squid. By far most species of animals are insects, with groups such as mollusks, crustaceans, and nematodes also being especially diverse. By this measure our own group, the vertebrates, is relatively inconsequential from a diversity perspective.
All animals are members of the Kingdom Animalia, also called Metazoa. Animal cells lack the rigid cell walls that characterize plant cells. About 1,800 animals from about 300 different species currently comprise the animal collection at the National Zoo and the Zoo's Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI), which is headquartered in Front Royal, Virginia.
About one-fifth of the species are endangered or threatened. Most species are on exhibit at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. A few are found only at the SCBI headquarters, which is not open to the public.
