The ability to link various documents within Google Apps makes it ideal for a digital Guided Reading program. Bringing Guided Reading into the Google realm has made it simple for me to consolidate my plans, texts, student work, and assessment into one location. It all begins with the Guided Reading Launch Page, a hub which, through linking, allows quick and easy access to: a weekly schedule anecdotal assessment documents an assessment form digital texts guided group folders (within which I store tasks, student work, and texts) Here is the Guided Reading Launch Page: As you can see, the Launch Page contains information found in traditional Guided Reading planning templates, such as group names, student names and the instructional focus for the week.

Perhaps it is because of the freedom we have to explore possibilities that we are often unaware of the depth to many of the simplest resources that are available. It is also without a doubt hard to be constantly adapting one's practice to ever-updating technology applications. Certainly, in this day and age, the sheer volume of resources available in education can be overwhelming. Navigating options and rating their relative value is always intimidating, particularly on the heels of a full 7 hours in front of students. But google docs is so worth it. In the last 9 months, it has become one of the most valuable learning tools for me as I continue to inquire into teaching and learning and I am constantly excited by the facility with which google docs allows me to guide student collaboration, research and writing while tracking their progress, providing feedback and involving parents. ...which we linked to our google site.
Google Drive Launching Next Week - Details Inside. Sometimes we get lucky, and today is one of those days. I got a draft release from a partner of Google’s upcoming Google Drive service and it gives away a wealth of information about how Google plans to take on the incumbent Dropbox. The short story? 5 GB of storage, and it launches next week, likely on Tuesday at Now let’s talk details. It’s no surprise that it will roll out for free. What’s interesting though is that Google is planning to start everyone with 5 GB of storage. What’s also interesting is the wording related to how the system will work. But there is one very solid piece of news – Google Drive is expected to launch in the middle of next week.
Now as for the reliability of the information? But the question remains – Can Google Drive hold a candle to Dropbox? Go Google: Google Drive. The new service is called Google Drive and it combines some of the best elements of Google Docs and Google Plus into one package. In fact, Google Docs is now a part of Google Drive. When you upload a file to your Google Drive account you can share it with anyone just like you can share any document in your Google Docs account. You can share files publicly or privately. Applications for Education Just like Google Docs, Dropbox, and other online files storage services, Google Drive eliminates the need for flashdrives/ USB drives and eliminates the need to send email attachments in order to share files.
Google Drive provides 5GB of free storage which should be more than enough for the vast majority of students. And now I need to go make some updates to Google Docs for Teachers to include information about Google Drive. Google Apps for Education and the New Google Drive. The long-awaited Google Drive is finally here. The new product, launching today and available at drive.google.com, offers users 5 GB of file storage and syncing and effectively replaces Google Docs (which has offered file storage for a couple of years.) Google Drive also replaces the editing, file-creation and file-sharing features of Google Docs. There’s been plenty of ink spilled already on the news, and lots of coverage about how Google Docs stacks up against some of the other cloud storage options available. At the end of the day, which one you choose is probably dependent on how you work and who you’re sharing with.
But for schools that are Google Apps for Education (and Chromebooks) customers, it’s likely they’ll take advantage of this tool as opposed to one of the alternatives. It was a great chance to hang with some friends and chat about meaningful ways to educate children.
One of the questions that came up in a session I was in is something that I get asked a lot. "How do I manage my Google Docs with so many documents coming in from so many students? " Teachers love how easy it is to collaborate with their students, not having to worry about losing the file and all the other bonuses that using Docs brings, but tracking down assignments can be a nightmare. I've covered this before from the teachers perspective and the students perspective here, but I'll run through how I do it step by step. Step 1) Students create a new Collection for the class and title it: Subject - Name For example: Science - Johnny Step 2) Students then share the Collection with the teacher.

Self-Publisher Lulu Announces Google Drive Integration. While Google's Drive's feature list is making headlines, one feature many may not be aware of is Drive's integration with self-publisher Lulu. Rumors and reports of Google Drive’s imminent launch have been coming hard and fast lately, but this one may just take the cake. The folks at The Next Web managed to get their hands on a draft of an announcement from one of Google’s official Drive partners, and have just revealed a few titillating details about the storage-service-that-almost-wasn’t. Earlier reports noted that the long-awaited cloud storage service would make its official debut sometime this week, but that no longer appears to be the case. Instead, Google Drive will reportedly launch next week, bestowing all interested users with 5GB of free storage to play with right out of the gate. That number jibes rather nicely with the leaked screenshots unearthed by the team at TalkAndroid just over two weeks ago. As expected, users will also be able to purchase additional storage should they need it, but there’s still no word on what kind of pricing model or storage tiers Google will run with.
As The End Of Google Docs Draws Near, Google Asks Stragglers To Transition To Google Drive. Google always pitched Google Drive, which launched in April after a considerable period of hype, as a replacement for Google Docs. What many users didn’t realize, it seems, is that Google will indeed completely replace Google Docs with Drive later this year. While Drive is still opt-in at this time, it looks like the forced transition is coming soon, as Google has started to alert users that their Google Docs account will soon be “upgraded to Google Drive.” What’s coming next, according to Google’s official transition documents, is an opt-out phase similar to what the company has done when it transitioned to the new Gmail interface recently.
Judging from the messages that many users are now seeing in Google Docs, this phase is going to start soon.
