Mings Dim Sum restaurant at Crown Casino by Red Design Group. Experimental in concept, Mings Dim Sum is a new gaming and wonton restaurant offer occupying its own exclusive space on Crown’s first floor.
Traces of the previous Sante buffet are long gone, except for a wall mural installation by renowned graphic artist, the late David Band. In keeping with Red Design Group’s philosophy of respecting existing design language was the decision to incorporate the mural into the refit. Framing newly introduced wallpaper and fabric panelling on the lower section of the wall, and repeating the framing around several of Brand’s graphic elements on the upper section – visually instilled a relationship between the two. The interior design was a collaborative process that acknowledged the specific gaming layouts and associated lighting and security requirements provided by Crown’s expert team.
Flooring materials work to functionally separate spaces while still allowing patrons the convenience of seamless transition. Caffee the Sól by Design BONO, Seoul. It was a year ago when I faced this space for the first time.
And after another year, I faced the space again. At the second meeting, I thought that I want to create a sunny void in the urban context (title: Raum), where people can enjoy relaxation and fun. I was inspired by the relatively narrow-looking spaces due to the high ceiling, in which I wanted to create a kind of a forest. Nobu restaurant by Rockwell Group, Dubai. To anchor Nobu at Atlantis The Palm in Dubai in its location, Rockwell Group surrounded the restaurant walls and ceilings with large hand-woven curvilinear abaca panels to evoke an environment submerged under an ocean wave, and added accents of traditional Middle Eastern vernacular architecture such as hand-wrought iron columns of flowers, leaves and buds.

The offer was to be a cupcake kiosk in a mall that also had a fully functioning production baking kitchen that was on full display. With a logo, a basic material palette and the general site identified, Carbon was asked to translate and elevate the UK brand into a Luxury Cupcake offer that translated the Victorian Charm and Sophistication into a modern and sleek international brand that was scalable and affordable and instantly recognizable in the crowded UAE cupcake market. Sited within Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi, the site location was within a triple height mall atrium with shops and kiosks on all sides. The site conditions had restrictions on circulation space, unobstructed views from existing shops, maximum heights, safety and security (day and night), and limited construction hours (non mall operation hours).
01. The name Hi/Lo visualizes our bipolar concept of Heaven & Hell that lies at the root of this interior design.
It also corresponds to the different states of getting stoned and is used to depict different aspects of this hospitality business for example the variation of tastes on the weed and hash menu. Our brief at the time was to design a contemporary high-end hospitality space in which one smokes weed and hash in a context of security and comfort using elements that make reference to an Arabic atmosphere.
The interior concept was derived from the original name ‘destination’, considering there are only two ultimate destinations we decided to make them both, heaven and hell. For ‘Heaven’ we were inspired by the idea of floating in a cloudscape, airy, light and high. The one off heavenly Wall Art created via the Shop Around creative supermarket agency in Amsterdam supported this fully, including the sunrays radiating from the only back window that we transformed into the sun.
