The first edition of his “Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms” was the first tech-specific education book I read in 2006 when, fresh out of the classroom, I took the job as editor of this site — back when I barely knew the keyboard shortcuts for “cut” and “paste,” much less how blogs, wikis and podcasts could change learning.

Mr. Richardson has a new book out, and its themes echo so much of what we try to do on The Learning Network that we asked him to write a guest post. -author unknown I have the privilege each year of speaking to auditoriums full of aspiring young leaders, anxious to go out into the world and make their mark. They are looking for the “book”, the “roadmap” , the “words or wisdom” that will guide them to the things they need “TO-DO” next. As we know, success in leadership and in the world is not only attributed to what you do; it is dependent on who you are and why you do. Who you are comes across more strongly than what you sell or say. In supporting the kind of leader they must be, we enable and elevate their ability to influence, catalyze, and transform the future in a way we have not yet seen.

I have detailed the following TO-BE List for theirs and your consideration: Be a Learner: You may have graduated from school, but never graduate from learning. So, what do you think? Sitting in my room listening to the silent spinning of the DVD as the graduation / senior movie renders for (hopefully) the last time. I can hear the hum of my small refrigerator in my room. Funny, I put that fridge in during the second week of school and I've never noticed that hum. I guess it is because this room is always full. Always noisy. Always bustling. "Give me a cliff. That point seems to come a lot during the last month of school. My Babies As full time teacher of technology, IT Director, and IT Integrator, I try to keep this place running and work hard to be efficient. But my babies are really these kids.

News Has A New Face: Meporter

Meporter is available online and has free apps (Android coming soon) that let you take pictures and write reports on the news and "cut out the middleman" with the mainstream media being considered the middleman in this case. Sign up is pretty simple. You don't have to use the app and can submit online directly. It does say you can "earn" by posting. It would be interesting to see if some of those who are unemployed over the summer may see this as an opportunity. It will take time to see if the community has a way to self correct and rate reporters, but this is very intriguing. Concerns aside-- Citizen journalism may just have a new face: ME (and you.)
