OVERVIEW. The Stars as Viewed from the International Space Station. Space Crafts & Ideas to Inspire. Welcome back to our “Get Crafty” round up! A round up of crafty ideas out there designed to inspire you and your family to get crafty! This month’s theme is “Space” – all those wonderful, stars, planets, moons, rockets and maybe the odd aliens. Hopefully you will find something for everyone. I have also teaming up again with THE Kid Lit blogger, Zoe from Playing By The Book – bringing you wonderful children’s literature from around the world. Zoe frequently combines her book reviews with a craft (and was one of the first to inspire me to get crafty), as well as music and other resources.

She has now started a series called “I’am Looking for a Book About…” and where possible, we aim to double up and link to each other – Zoe providing you the literature and I providing you the crafts. This way you can get crafty and find beautiful books to share with your children. I saw a variation of a solar system hat on Pinterest recently but decided to put my own spin on it when we studied space a couple of weeks ago. Here’s how to make it: First, take a piece of black cardstock or construction paper and cut it lengthwise into 4-inch by 12-inch strips.

There should be a one inch strip left over. Tape or glue the two strips together to make one long strip. With just a tad bit of water, thin white tempera paint. Glow in the dark paint would also be super fun to use! Dip the brush into the paint and then hold the paintbrush over your paper. While that is drying, color and cut out the shapes of the sun and planets. Glue them in order onto your black paper once the paint is dry. Fold the paper into a circle and glue or tape into place. This activity and the sun and planets printables you see in the photos are a part of my Space unit for K-1 on TeachersPayTeachers. *The site with the free planets printable doesn’t give clear directions on how to print.

Itsy Bitsy Fun Blog. I'm really happy to have started the space and solar system printbales series as space is something that I loved to learn about as a kid and still enjoy reading and learning about as an adult (how cool is the Phillae's landing on a comet?). So I started with solar system worksheets for kids of all ages - I've put together a few different versions to make learning about the planets fun - word searches, connecting the planets with their names, scrambled words... I think there's something for pretty much everyone to be found there (I really tried to make it fun as learning about solar system should never be dull). As I think word searches are really fun and a great way to memorise the names I decided to make another page dedicated just to those (check the solar system word search puzzles) Next I though it would be fun to learn more about the solar system so I've put together a printablesolar system facts for kids sheets.

The planets, comets, meteors, the Moon, and everything else in between have absolutely positively taken over. If I could, I would have packed up the kiddos and taken a first class field trip to outer space ... but my budget couldn't cover that trip this month. Maybe next year? Here are a few things we've done to make up for not being able to visit the planets. (A girl can dream, right?) Print, Cut, Paste, Craft » Blog Archive » Free Printable Solar System Model for Kids. Free Printable Solar System Model for Kids May21 I wanted to create a printable solar system model, something that I could print and put together easily to show my son what planets are in the solar system, which ones are closer or further from the sun and from us and which one is the biggest or the smallest. I chose not to use an actual scale, otherwise it would have been hard to make it printable, but I still tried to give an idea of the different sizes. I also tried to replicate as much as possible the actual colors of the planets as we see them from the earth, to create a realistic effect without using the actual pictures.

Here is the result: Here is how to recreate this simple solar system model: 1) print the free hi-res jpg on cardstock with a color printer (click here for the planets and the arms); 2) cut out the planets and the arms; 4) place a metal brad in the middle of the sun and connect all the arms to it before opening it; Enjoy!
