We are the 2nd oldest Lions Club in Alabama and the oldest Lions Club along the Greater Gulf Coast. We are part of Lions Club International which is the largest service club organization in the world, founded by Melvin Jones almost 100 years ago. LIONS is an acronym which stands for LIBERTY, INTELLIGENCE, OUR NATION’S SAFETY, and our Motto is “We Serve.” We support many worthwhile projects, with a key emphasis on sight preservation and eye research and providing sight and support for the blind.

In 1924, a group of concerned citizens in Mobile started the Mobile Association for the Blind to create job opportunities for people who were blind. The Mobile Association for the Blind is now a 45,000 square foot manufacturing facility where many visually impaired individuals who are not able to join the public workforce are employed in our Sheltered Workshop. Our organization also provides assistance to other citizens with disabilities. Counseling and evaluation, skills training, and job placement are just some of the services we provide to help create the self-esteem needed to become productive members of society.

Shelter Emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children is available 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Victims who are admitted for shelter care are provided a safe place to stay while assessing their life situation and setting goals for the future. Shelter services include food, clothing, counseling, court advocate services, vocational counseling, child care, and support groups. Victim Support Groups Weekly support groups are held in various locations within Mobile county.
Children’s Program The children’s program provides on-site care for in-shelter, school-age children.
