In honor of these new accessories, I wanted to share some quick iPad management tips with everyone: 1 - Color code your iPad cases for easy 1:1 access We have 5 students at each table and have assigned each seat a color.
Each table has five differently colored iPads, and so when a student in seat "red" reaches for an iPad he or she doesn't need to rummage through the bin; they can easily see the red case and get "their" device. 2- Create desktop backgrounds to show numeration The cases cover the backs - where we originally had numerated stickers showing which iPad was which. I did it this way - rather than creating the image on the iPad - for two reasons. 3 - Create shortcuts to frequently visited sites (Study Island, Class Google Site, etc) Open your iPad's Safari app and type in the URL of the site that you'd like to visit. 4 - Create differentiated folders for apps Group your apps into folders based on level. FLYING Egg Carton Helicopter! - How Wee Learn. We store up our cardboard egg cartons during the winter to use in the spring for starting our seeds for our garden. However, this year we were given some little peat pots from a friend.
Therefore, we have quite a few extra egg cartons lying around. And around here, if anything lays around for too long it will be used in a craft of some sort! The first craft an egg carton has found its way into … this AWESOME egg carton helicopter! There is a neat and very simple Science activity for kids that shows (in a very simplified version) how a helicopter propeller spins. With egg cartons on the brain, it didn’t take me long to realize that two egg holders stuck together would look an awful lot like a helicopter …. and so … we did! To make an Egg Carton Helicopter First of all, make a paper helicopter, just like the one outlined above. Next, we painted and decorated to cardboard egg carton cups. And then, perch your child on top of a high ledge —- the higher the better — (I’m kidding!) Disrespectful Step Children and Teens - What To Do When Your Step-Kids Disrespect You.
This is part 2 of a two-part series by James Lehman, MSW on Blended Families. In this article, James discusses the importance of respectful behavior in a blended family, and how parents can achieve this from all the children in the family. Over the years, many parents in blended families have come to me to talk about the subject of disrespect. In some cases, their stepkids didn’t respect them, and in others, their biological child did not respect their new spouse. The truth is a child may never respect his stepparent, but he does have to know that he can’t get away with being rude or obnoxious to them. The only way to achieve the desired behavior is to be certain you and your spouse are united in making sure that your kids treat you with respect. The child may never get over the loss of his mother or father, or that of his original family.
Lay Down the Ground Rules from the Start If you haven’t done so already, sit down with the kids in your blended family and lay out some ground rules. How To Keep Baby Occupied All Day. Baby Play Ideas and Activities: 6-18 Months. Why not try: I hope you have been inspired with some new ways to play with your baby! *Please remember to NEVER leave a baby unattended with any of these play items and to supervise them carefully during play. Common sense always needs to be applied! * Counting and Subitising. We often recognise the number associated with a particular pattern straight away, even before we have had time to count the items.
What is Subitising (Subitizing)? Subitising refers to immediately knowing how many items lie within a visual scene for a small number of items. It is to have a rapid and confident judgement to know at a glance and without counting to identify the number of items in a group. For example, when a dice is thrown the observer at a glance, immediately and accurately knows how many dots lie on the face of the dice without counting. These dice activities I have set up for Miss 4 is to practice and develop her subitising skills and to also involve Miss 2 to help her begin this learning of subitising and also counting. What you will need? You will need dice, small round tokens or buttons, medium and small pompoms and subitising pictures with rounds circles to fill with the pompoms and tokens. The AmazingClassroom.com Blog: Inference Bags! Today I did a neat activity with my students. I called it the "Inference Bag" activity. I thought this was a neat activity that would allow my students ownership. Step One: I handed out paper sandwich bags to each of my students Step Two: I handed out a name tag and glued it on their bag Step Three: I let the students place anything that would fit in their bag.
I had rubber animals, stuffed animals, unit cubes, paper decorations, anything they could find that wasn't actually living they could put in their bag. Step Four: Staple the bags closed. Step Five: Hand out one index card to each student. Step Six: Have students write out 6 clues about their mystery object in the bag. Step Seven: Place the bags in a corner of the room with their clues and a sheets of paper with all of the students names on them.
A close-up of one of the bags and the student's clue card. Flower number games. These flower number games are inspired by spring. You can adapt them for different aged children, and use them for both math games and letter activities. Here’s how to play. Flower number games These flower games give you a framework to practise many different math facts over time, and my children find them much more fun than answering the same questions on a worksheet. I love that the whole thing looks so pretty, so we get some lovely spring art in our room, which encourages us to use the activity often. To set up our flower number games we first painted some blooms. We also painted some green stalks, and fastened both the stalks and flowers to our wall with white tack. Next, we cut out some leaf shapes. The aim of our game is to: 1. 2. 3.
Different ways to play: numbers and letters You can adapt this flower maths activity to suit lots of different stages, and you can have siblings of different ages playing along together. Children of different ages can play together. More spring activities. Calmsound - Nature Sounds Like This! Outdoor Number Line Activity. It’s spring and it’s time to get outside and learn! This sidewalk chalk number line activity is great because it uses almost no materials and you can use it however your child needs to.
My son used the line as a place to show his answers but didn’t use it as a manipulative itself, and my daughter used it to count by 5 with help. Your child may like the line as a guide to figure out the equations or as a way to show their answers to mental math like my son. Use it for whatever math goal you are working on. Gather your materials. You will need a sidewalk or road, sidewalk chalk, some pebbles to use as place markers and a young mathematician or two. Start by drawing a number line on the ground. I wrote out equations that my son has been working on doing mentally. It’s fun and active and even if you are working on drills you can add an active element.
Call out the equation and have them place a pebble on the answer. Keep going. Want more active learning ideas for kids? Kids art :: painting with the rain. We’re using paint and rain drops to make art today. It’s very easy to do and produces unique effects every time. To try painting with the rain you will need: :: some fairly thick paper, which can cope with getting wet (we’re using sheets torn from our art journals) :: watercolour paints :: paint brushes :: a few pebbles, or similar, to hold your paper in place :: a rainy day Start by painting a design on your paper using your watercolour paints.
Then quickly, while the watercolours are still wet, take your paper outside. Then invite nature to join in.
