Autumn Winter 2013 collection by Gareth Pugh. British fashion designer Gareth Pugh sent models down the runway in dresses made from strips of bin liners during his Paris Fashion Week show. Pugh shredded the rubbish bags into strips then layered them up to create outfits and accessories that look like pom-poms. The material is also tightly woven into dresses, a coat and a scarf, with the edges left frayed to create volume. The bags were purchased from a pound shop in Stoke Newington, close to where Dezeen's offices are based. The collection also featured floor-length robes in heavy fabrics that are bunched and creased asymmetrically around the top, sometimes only covering one arm.

Sleeves are continued upward, skimming past the shoulders to form stiff collars in rings much wider than the neck, which sit just below chin level. Some garments splay out at the waist, while others flare from the bust to form triangular silhouettes. Leather wrap coats are folded over at the top to create giant collars that reach down to the waist. Sidewalk Chic: Check Out Concrete Genezis’ Cement-Inspired Fashions. No one can accuse us of being shy about hiding our love of concrete -- after all, we did recently showcase a series of home furnishings inspired by one of our favorite building materials (click here to see our picks). So imagine how excited we were we when discovered Concrete Genezis, a fashion line by Budapest-based design company IVANKA.

Add To Collection Save this image to a collection The clothing collection mixes textiles to reflect the industrious nature of concrete. The majority of the designs consist of a “merger between actual concrete and genuine leather.” Designers Katalin Ivanka and Andras Ivanka developed the idea for the line after working with concrete-dipped clothing during a photo shoot. Shoes that undergo physical changes to represent stages in a life cycle - from floating in amniotic fluid to rebirth through fire - form this collection by London designer Benjamin John Hall (+ movie). Above: "Birth" women's shoe Hall told Dezeen that the haute couture collection "is based on the processes and experiences that relate to the themes of birth, life, death and resurrection".

Above: "Birth" women's shoe The collection features seven pairs of shoes: a single pair for resurrection and a men's and women's pair for each of the other themes. Above: "Birth" men's shoe The Amniotic Boot, signifying birth, is wrapped in foil that is slowly filled with black ink and then pierced so the ink bleeds out and the foil is removed to reveal the shoe. Black ink circulates around hospital-grade silicon tubing that is coiled around to create the women's Birth sandal and when the tube is filled with ink it is snipped at the source like an umbilical chord.
