Personal Spaces for Social Interaction | Right Attitudes. We regard the physical space around our bodies as personal territories. Subconsciously, we consider ourselves the center of a series of invisible bubbles—each bubble representing a comfort zone. American anthropologist Edward Hall defined four personal spaces in his classic book ‘The Hidden Dimension‘ (1966.) Intimate space for interacting with significant people and for hand-shaking, whispering, etc. with friends and acquaintances—touch to 1.5 feet awayCasual space for interacting with close friends—1.5 feet to 4 feet awaySocial space for interacting with acquaintances—4 feet to 12 feet awayPublic space for interacting with relatively anonymous people—further than 12 feet away Personal Spaces Represent Comfort Zones The distances associated with the comfort zones above depend on one’s cultural upbringing. Significance of Personal Spaces The significance of this concept of personal space is obvious: we feel uncomfortable if a person enters a space that we do not desire him/her to be in.

Goth. Autism/Aspergers. Nonverbal Gestures: The Body Language of a Liar. By Laurie Wilhelm Body language in communication can work either for us or against us. If you’re speaking to someone who you suspect to be lying, there are a few gestures they may make that gives them away. Look for examples of non verbal communication in their body language – the body will tell you what their words won’t.
As an aside, lies don’t have to be malicious. The most obvious tell-tale signs of someone lying are: covering his mouthscratching his noserubbing his eyespulling on his earscratching or rubbing his neckpulling at his collar Also, he’s likely to be unable to maintain direct eye contact with you for long or, alternatively, he may look at you for an unnaturally long time.
And watch which direction his eyes are going. The rest of his body will likely be stiff and his gestures limited and when he does move, his gestures are restricted or are drawn inward to take up less space. Note that his facial gestures won’t coincide with his words. Finally, watch his hands.
