Your One-Stop Shop for Work Lunch Ideas. For two years, I’ve been fairly consistently packing my lunch for work. And like tons of other personal finance bloggers, it’s saved me mad dough – somewhere in the neighborhood of $2500, I’m guessing. To put it in more concrete terms, that’s 5% of the down payment on a house, two sweet vacations, rent for four months, ten 160GB iPods, or 80 semi-decent pairs of shoes. Nice. Alas, life’s been a little hectic lately, so last week I opted for takeout soup, sandwiches, and Z-grade sushi over homemade salads and be-tupperwared leftovers. Admittedly, it was a nice change, but it also served as a reminder. I know brown bagging has been covered exhaustively by every single media source in existence (ABC, BBC, Highlights Magazine, The Hills, etc.), but its importance can’t be overstated. Cheap (see first paragraph),Healthy (as it gives you control over your food), andGood (for the environment). Plan ahead.

Prep the night before. Prep in bulk. Don’t settle for sandwiches. Use leftovers wisely. View All Photos < Our Best Healthy Lunch Ideas. Club Wraps Recipe - Food.com - 25924. Make Your Brown Bag Lunch More Appealing. Thai Chicken Sandwiches with Ginger & Sambal Oelek. Served with spring mix and endamame dressed with wasabi vinaigrette, this Thai Chicken Sandwich has recently become one of my favorite things to make for a nice lunch or a quick dinner. I can’t get enough! A simple ginger, lime, and sesame marinade ensure there’s a ton of flavor in every bite and I love the contrast between the fiery chili sauce and the cool, crisp cucumbers. And that’s really all there is to say about it.

Sambal Oelek is a chili paste that is similar in flavor to sriracha, but thicker and less vinegary (you can find it in the Asian aisle of most grocery stores). This stuff is basically pure chili pepper, so it has some pretty serious heat — a little goes a long way! I'd like to state that laundry washed with detergent smells awesome. Laundry washed without detergent, doesn't. That's a little tip from yours truly.

I learned that the hard way. You're very welcome. This open faced tomato and herbed goat cheese sandwich was my reward after doing three loads of laundry today. I hate doing laundry. Have I mentioned that? Yeah, I think maybe I have. My mother would tell me if I did it more often, I wouldn't have Mount Laundrious in my room. She's probably right. But then I'd have to find something else to whine about. As a matter of fact, my laundry nearly killed me. Somehow a safety pin appeared out of thin air and stuck my thumb. It was lurking. Patiently waiting for me. I lost a drop of blood, but I was fortunate. I'm still not out of the woods yet. Who knows what and how many germs the tip of that safety pin was carrying? I figure if I'm going to get taken out by a safety pin, then at least I'm going to go out having eaten an awesome lunch.

BLT Club Sandwich: Bacon + Tomato + Lettuce = BLT BLT + Turkey + Mayo + Red Onion + Cheese = A BLT Club Sandwich. It’s pretty simple {and delicious} math. When I was a kid it was more of a BL sandwich, as I didn’t care so much for tomatoes. Now I load it up with whatever fresh veggies I can lay my hands on, the thicker the sandwich the better! For this sammie I like to use some kind of bakery bread or sourdough. So whether it’s lunch or dinner this this sandwich isn’t complete without a crisp, juicy dill pickle and some salty potato chips and washed down with an iced cold lemonade. The goods. Grab two slices of bread and open them like a book so they will match back up when you make your sandwich.

Schmear both sides with some mayo, if mayo is your thing. Put the slices back together and butter both of the outer sides with a thin layer of butter. Open them back up and lay the outer, buttered sides, down on the hot griddle. Now comes the fun part… Top with a couple slices of turkey. Tomato… Red onion… Lettuce…
