Crochet Sacred Heart Afghan Square Photos. How to Paint Roving and Yarn. Tutorial: Crock Pot Yarn Dyeing! You may not even know about these, but way back at the beginning of this blog, almost 3 years ago, I did a couple of kool-aid yarn dyeing tutorials. They were specifically how-tos for getting particular kinds of variegation (as opposed to dyeing basics) – part 1 being three blending colors, part 2 longer stripes of random-order solids. (I’ve just gone back and edited these old posts a little, changing some bad advice I’d given and some minor details, but not anything major.) So, after 3 years and countless skeins of dyeing experience have now passed, I want to do a couple of new dyeing tutorials for you! (For the basics of dyeing, if you’re new to it, see the link list in my first tutorial, since this post is only meant for this particular variegation method, not for kool-aid dyeing in general.) I recently dyed up a skein of bulky yarn (Imperial Stock Ranch Lopi) with 5 different colors in my crock pot, for a spotty, kettle dyed kind of look, as you can see above.

Fun! I am Style-ish: Glitter... Everything! Ever since I made my glitter clutch, I've been looking around at everything that we have around the house that I can glitter. I told you I had a lot of glitter projects to share, I finally gathered them together to photograph! First up are these little tea light holders that were totally boring on their own... I put together a mixture of Mod Podge and glitter (same as the glitter clutch) but this time I dumped the mixture in the candleholder, swirled it around until it covered every area and then let it dry upside down for a day. Now, they are adorable and I keep one in the bathroom to hold my bobby pins which has made my life so much easier when doing my hair! *A note on the tea light holders, you can still use tea lights in them even with the glitter, just get the battery operated ones. I buy a ton of candles and always try to keep the jars once they are done being candles because they are great storage holders (I use a few to hold my makeup brushes).

How to make your own Alcohol Inks, Shimmer Mists, Mod Podge and more. As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been experimenting with some more cost effective alternatives in the crafting/scrapping/art journaling area and I want to share some of those with you. 1. Alcohol Inks and Spray Inks. They are easily and cheaply made with every day ingredients. They may not be of the highest ingredients, but they work for what I need them for!

The first one I want to show you is the cool aid spray! Get yourself an empty small spray bottle either from the dollar store or from Target (Pharmacy department.) Place the cool aid powder in the bottle, fill it up almost to the top with rubbing alcohol. Of course you can add more or less powder, depending on how intense you want the color. The other option is the RIT dye alcohol inks. And of course, food coloring, egg dye and re-inkers can be used too! And then there is the Gelato way! Incidentally you can also use the gelatos to color modeling paste. 2. Love the stuff, but after a while it can get quite expensive. 3. 4. Water. Recycled Envelopes Art Journal.
