Finding and Fixing Fret Buzz Fret buzz is what happens when one or more strings are too close to the frets. The first step is to find out where the buzz is coming from. If the strings buzz at only one fret, that fret is probably out of alignment. If only one string is buzzing, the fix is ridiculously simple. Yes, it's a kludge.
