Debademba betekent zoveel als 'grote familie' in het Bambara en is een collectief van de muzikanten Abdoulaye Traoré en Mohamed Diaby . Geïnspireerd door het gedachtengoed van Thomas Sankara vonden de twee meesters elkaar in Parijs. Traoré komt uit Burkina Faso en werkte in het recente verleden samen met de bekende Victor Démé . Sinds een aantal jaren schijft hij ook liedjes voor zichzelf en nu voor zijn eigen band. In Belleville in Parijs werd Traoré al snel een vast onderdeel van de Parijse uitgaansscene en testte hij daar zijn repertoire uit op het publiek. 'Ik speelde al jaren met het idee voor een groep, maar het ontbrak me aan een goede zanger,' zegt Abdoulaye.

SaniFaso: A Learning Sanitation Project in Burkina Faso | India Sanitation Portal
The SaniFaso project aims to eradicate open defecation in 12 partnering communes (the lowest level of administrative division) in Burkina Faso. The four-year rural sanitation project, which started in December 2010, will construct 16,000 latrines, train local masons and carry out hygiene promotion campaigns. The European Commission is co-funding this 3 million Euro project.

Research throughout the Millennium Villages has shown that the rural poor are paying as much as 5 USD ($) per month for kerosene, batteries, and other energy inputs that could be more efficiently and cheaply supplied by electricity from a centralized source. This 5 $/month of energy use is equivalent to about 1.5 kWh. The rural poor are paying in excess of 3 $/kWh, yet grid electricity prices in many of these countries can be an order of magnitude lower ( Detailed analysis of grid connection costs have shown that extending the grid to reach these rural poor typically requires more than 1000 $/household in many cases, and still only connects the few who are nearby the existing infrastructure (roads) along which the grid would be extended.

This paper explores why measuring the impacts of information and communication technology (ICT) is important for development – and why it is statistically challenging. Measuring impacts in any field is difficult, but for ICT there are added complications because of its diversity and rapidly changing nature. A number of impact areas are identified in section 1, and their relationships explored, in the context of their place in the social, economic and environmental realms. The result is a complex web of relationships between individual impact areas, such as economic growth and poverty alleviation, and background factors, such as a country’s level of education and government regulation.
In my last 2 posts, I wrote about reality (how rural youth in Africa are currently harnessing ICTs to generate income), and possibility — some new technology uses and concepts that I learned about at the “Can youth find economic empowerment via apps, m-payments and social media?” Tech Salon , hosted by ICT Works and the UN Foundation Technology Partnership . This third and last post of the series explores some of the broader aspects that need to be in place or considered when looking at youth economic empowerment and the role of ICTs. During our Tech Salon conversations, someone reminded the room that a large population of well-educated youth with no prospective jobs (think Tunisia or Egypt) is one thing. A large population of (rural) youth with low education levels is another.

After coming across the announcement I was keen to join the Ning social network/ knowledge sharing platform which is available at http://agri-tic.ning.com/ . At the forum I was trilled to find the training videos by TV Koodo, introducing the agricultural market information systems launched by Burkina NTIC and IICD.filmpjes
1 De inwoners van deze streek hebben het enorm moeilijk. De economie is ontwricht vanwege politieke spanningen met de rebellen in noordelijk Mali. Tot overmaat van ramp was het regenseizoen slecht, het heeft weinig geregend, en de rijstoogst was evenredig matig. De inwoners van Dialangou zijn dagloners, de gevolgen van de droogte is voor hen direct voelbaar. 2 Alle 6 de meisjes komen uit zeer arme families, een aantal van hen leeft bij familie vanwege het overlijden van hun ouders. Zij kunnen zo hun transport naar school en een lunch betalen en af en toe ook gebruik maken van een internetcafe om onderzoek te doen voor hun studie.

Edukafaso : aide à la scolarisation au Burkina Faso Edukafaso est une association qui aide à la scolarisation des enfants au Burkina Faso par différents moyens (fournitures scolaires, paiement des frais de scolarité, cantines, bibliothèques...). On trouve notamment sur le site une rubrique sur l'actualité de l'éducation au Burkina Faso et en téléchargement (au format PDF) "Les Echos d'Edukafaso", revue semestrielle éditée par l'association. Dit jaar wordt mijn ticket van Parijs naar Ouagadougou en terug door de firma Henkelman (vacuum systems) uit ´s-Hertogenbosch gesponsord. Ik wist niet eens wie dat waren, maar Stefan Harleman die wel eens in September Rosmalen komt, had afgelopen januari tegen Otto gezegd dat ik hem moest bellen tegen de tijd dat ik weer zou vertrekken. 3 weken geleden heb ik die dus met lood in mijn schoenen gebeld, ik ken de man helemaal niet en dacht dat hij zijn belofte aan Otto al vergeten zou zijn. Een van mijn grootste en trouwste sponsors, die graag onbekend wil blijven heeft ook dit jaar weer 1000,00 euro gesponsord voor mijn project in Sorubouly. Bedankt D. Het sponsorgeld staat momenteel op 1790,00 euro.De in Tilburg gevestigde Stichting Support Benebnooma is op zoek naar nieuwe adoptieouders voor kansarme kinderen zoals Samiratou in Koudougou, Burkina Faso. Waarom? Neem nou als voorbeeld Samiratou Ouedraogo. Zij is een meisje en geboren op 22 augustus 2000 in Koudougou te Burkina Faso. Helaas is haar vader vroegtijdig overleden. Haar moeder is niet of nauwelijks in staat om de kinderen op te voeden.
