Publications. MMCP: The “Critical” in Critical Pedagogy. MOOC MOOC: Critical Pedagogy is a six-week exploration of critical pedagogy. For this first week of MOOC MOOC: Critical Pedagogy (MMCP), we will be discussing Chapter 2 of Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed and this pedagogical moment from Emily Dickinson. However, feel free to read as much or as little of Freire’s book as you are able. We promise there will be no reading quizzes. Our discussion will begin on Twitter at #MOOCMOOC on January 21 at 5:00 PM EST. We also encourage you to write blog responses each week during MMCP and post links on the hashtag.

We consider your posts primary texts alongside the “official” assigned readings. One of the most difficult things to reconcile as critical pedagogues is the exercise of our own authority. In the field of creative writing — my native field — there’s a maxim: show, don’t tell. Critical pedagogy could be thought of as a philosophy of teaching that shows more than tells. Tonight's #PTchat Questions. Student Teacher Diaries: Week OneThe Educator's Room | Empowering Teachers as the Experts. Starting back to school after a break is always a mixture of emotions. I am excited to get back into a routine and see my kids. But I miss the lazy days of Christmas break, eating when I am hungry, using the restroom whenever I want, and snuggling on the couch reading. This semester I have the added joy of having a student intern as I return. It is bringing a new mixture of emotions I did not expect. Mentor, Lori Rice: The first day back I realized the immense responsibility I have in helping guide another person. Education classes always want to know about the who. Intern, Lauren Laudan :There is a difference between having an opinion because you have been in a school and forming an opinion because you work in a school. Lori: Having a day to plan with Lauren and my fourth-grade team was wonderful, but the official first day with kids was even better.

I was more apprehensive than I thought I would be the rest of the week. Follow Up: Kids are amazing creatures. #ntchat on Tagboard.
