Slouch Hats

At Yarn's End Beret. I've gotten a few requests for the Wager's Hat I made for my friend Pam for Christmas and so I'm going to post it here - the best I can remember.

At Yarn's End Beret

I think I wrote it down somewhere (how many stitches to cast on and then increase but as usual, I can't find it!) But I'll give it a go! I think the stitch is based on Barbara Walker's Wager's Welt pattern but I'm not so sure. Wager Hat You will need: Bulky yarn (about 140 yards) I used a little more than half a skein of Lion Brand Homespun yarn since I didn't want Pam to have to worry about washing wool when she's got all that chemotherapy to worry about!

Entrelac Hat

This hat was one of the results. It is shaped at the crown by using progressively smaller blocks. This is a good beginner project for those new to entrelac knitting. To avoid having those awkward triangles at the end of rows I have designed it to use circular needles and dpns. With entrelac you can sometimes use circular needles with a smallish number of sts where ordinary knitting would not work. To make a larger sized hat - see below. Yarn used — Sirdar Country Style (light DK) in 2 colours (A & B) Needles — dpns 3.75mm (optional - 16" or smaller circular needle same size) Size — infants small Note — instead of turning every few sts, I prefer to use the "knit backwards" procedure.

With colour A, cast on 56 sts, join into circle and work k2 p2 rib for 8 rounds. 1st round rectangles (leaning right): Turn so wrong side is facing. 3rd round: As 1st round, but pick up 6 sts instead of 8. Janet. Well, after quite a long hiatus from blogging, and even longer from designing- or rather, taking notes and writing stuff up- here I am again with another hat pattern.

Janet

Janet is a very special person and lovely friend, and when I had to go away I decided to knit her a hat. A special hat. So I scoured Ravelry for just the right hat and it... it wasn't there, not quite. I found a stitch pattern I liked and dove in with all my knitterly abandon, even marking down what I was doing with the half-formed notion of... another blog post, another design. I have sadly not got myself charting software and my hard drive was wiped out so even my Excel is gone- however the urge to post has come over me and I will add a chart as soon as it is ready. This tam is worked in the round from the brim to the crown. Materials: -Worsted weight wool or wool blend, about 100 grams I used "Alpaca Love" by Stitch Nation by Debbie Stoller.

. -16 inch circular needles, size 5 (3.75mm) and 7 (4.5mm) -stitch markers. Quick Cable Slouch Hat. This is a pattern I had made to teach my student how to make her first cabled hat, so I made sure it was not intimidating.

Quick Cable Slouch Hat

Very quick to knit, so great for gifts. I have used a bulky alpaca yarn so it had a fair drape and a pom-pom was too heavy, but it may work better if you use wool. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++*Note*I have originally posted and recommended size #10 needles for the body, but it seems like many people have been getting a less slouchy result. If you want to get a slouchy hat for sure, it might be better to use size #11 for the body. I don't have a specific gauge, but the fabric for the main body should be somewhat loose and have a bit of a drape. Materials Needed: US7 or 8 for Brim US10 or 11 for Body (NOTE : I had used #8 and #11, and the body was pretty big so I felted down a little. For either, DPN, fixed 16" Circular, Using 32"+ needles to work in Magic loop is your choice. I used Cascade Yarns Baby Alpaca Chunky.
