Introduction

Published: December 20, 2007 This guide is intended to be used as a part of Microsoft® Deployment Solution Accelerator. Microsoft Deployment is the next version of Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) 2007. It guides the Image Engineering feature team through the process of using Microsoft Deployment and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 during the imaging process. Note Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Operating System Deployment (OSD) Feature Pack does not include the ability to create images, so the Microsoft Deployment Lite Touch Installation (LTI) deployment process is used, instead.

http://www.techrepublic.com/downloads/how-do-i-use-bootvis-to-improve-xp-boot-performance/377428 Windows XP was designed to optimize the boot process so users can boot their machines and access the operating system as quickly as possible. For the most part, XP is successful. There is, however, almost always room for improvement, and BootVis.exe, a free Microsoft utility, can help you get the best boot performance possible from an XP system. This download is also available as an entry in the TechRepublic Microsoft Windows blog .

http://searchenterprisedesktop.techtarget.com/tip/Use-RunAs-to-run-Explorer-window-with-elevated-privileges-in-IE7 Do you utilize the secondary logon (RunAs) when logged on as a user who has limited rights? Have you ever used RunAs with Internet Explorer 6, then typed C: in the address bar to run an Explorer window with elevated privileges? Have you tried this with Internet Explorer 7(IE7)? If so, you may have noticed that Microsoft broke this feature in IE7. Some programs, including Control Panel, the Printers folder and Microsoft Management Console utilities like Disk Manager, are started either directly or indirectly using the Windows Explorer Shell. The problem is that some of these programs require elevated privileges to run (aka admin rights) and the logged-on user is not an admin.

Return the Address bar Windows XP SP3 removed? | Microsoft Windows | TechRepublic.com

Takeaway: One of the features we liked about Microsoft Windows XP was the optional Address bar you could dock to the toolbar section of the desktop. But Service Pack 3 for XP takes away that option ostensibly for legal reasons. Well, Mark Kaelin says nuts to that and shows you how to get it back. When I am running my PC under Windows XP, I like to take full advantage of the toolbar options ( Figure A ) available on the desktop. http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/window-on-windows/how-do-i-return-the-address-bar-windows-xp-sp3-removed/683

Show Hidden Files and Folders not working? | Be Tech Dated with Technize.com

A few days back, a client came to me and told me that he was having trouble with his Windows XP. The show hidden files and folders was not working at all. If he selected the radio button “Show hidden files and folders”, and then press Ok .. the changes would just disappear upon opening the dialog again. It was probably some virus attack after which the Windows registry was not being updated properly. So here is what I did to restore it back.
