Because our country fell apart long before any of those events could happen. Imagine that not long after the Revolutionary War the states realized that, just like estranged siblings, they just didn’t have enough in common to stay friends. Unlikely you say? To most Americans loyalty to some big government located hundreds of miles away was a scary thought. On the home front Congress could raise an army, print money, and create a standard system of weights and measurements, manage Indian affairs, and operate a national post office. Each state was too busy trying to out-compete its neighbors–just like independent countries do.
