The reason Markus Miele is running uncharacteristically late this afternoon, is that he has been on the telephone to a customer.
He may be chief executive of the German domestic appliance company Miele, he may have factories to oversee, meetings to go to, and pricing strategies to discuss, but a Miele customer from the UK has written to him personally to inquire about a replacement part for his vacuum cleaner and Mr Miele is eager to help him. But the vacuum cleaner broke six years ago and it was already nearly 30 years old then. The Making Of A Shoe Video: How Are Shoes Made. PARIS, France — Prada SpA reported first-half profit that beat analysts’ estimates as efforts to contain costs helped mitigate declining sales in Asia.
Net income fell 23 percent to 188.6 million euros ($213 million) in the six months through July, Milan-based Prada said Tuesday in a statement. Analysts predicted 175.4 million euros, according to the median of six estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Topshop Gets Called Out For Unrealistic Mannequin Body Standards. By now, it seems as if most retailers have been involved in some sort of controversy.
And while some have been because of tasteless graphics, or hypersexualized advertisements, one thing we continue to see over and over again—and frankly, we're tired of it—is the ridiculous body standards reinforced by the mannequins that model the clothing. Topshop, the popular British brand that boasts collaborations with stars like Gigi Hadid and Cara Delevingne, has come under fire after a shopper noticed that the store's mannequin had extremely thin legs. The mannequin was wearing the retailer's popular "Jamie" jeans, and the shopper, Laura Berry, voiced her concerns that the figure was not an accurate representation of the average female form. Body Anxiety and a new wave of digifeminist art. Jennifer Chan and Leah Schrager are two names you need to get familiar with.
The US-based new media artists have co-curated an all-female line-up of 21 artists – for the currently on show exhibition titled Body Anxiety – who use their own bodies in their works, while pioneering the newest forms of media: from online performance GIF art (see: May Waver and RAFia Santana) to web and digital art – alongside video, poetry and photography. The virtual exhibit demonstrates the plurality of views on the female body politic, on self-representation and on agency. It also shows that these art works emphatically need to be recognised by a male-saturated art world. The artists are not united in their voice or aesthetic, but their collective force challenges gender stereotypes – particularly in undulating social space of the internet.
