Minecraft creator distributes nearly three million dollars to fellow employees | VentureBeat

http://venturebeat.com/2012/03/01/minecraft-creator-distributes-nearly-three-million-dollars-to-fellow-employees/ Dividends are payments made by a company to shareholders from its profits. This means that rather than take money paid to him by Mojang, he gave it to his employees. According to the Minecraft forums, which cites the game’s stat page , the title has raked in around $100 million in revenue to date. It also shows that Minecraft has over 23 million registered users.

Markus "Notch" Person steps down as lead Minecraft developer

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2011/12/markus-notch-person-steps-down-as-lead-minecraft-developer.ars Markus "Notch" Persson has stepped down as the lead developer on Minecraft, according to a post on his Tumblr. Though he will still be involved in the game, Jens Bergensten, a developer for the game, will move into the role of lead developer as Persson goes to work on a "new project" with his development studio Mojang. Persson notes that he and Bergensten have been working on Minecraft together for over a year. Minecraft 1.0 was finally released two weeks ago on November 18 during MineCon, creating a juncture that has apparently allowed Persson to feel comfortable scaling back his role with the game. Persson will still be a developer for Minecraft, though he notes that he will "now rest for a while" following the leadership transition to Berngensten. When he returns, he will be starting work on a new project, the details of which he does not disclose.

Survival mode to Minecraft PE

http://me.lt/8n9mN The first ever MineCon has just ended and while it was mostly geared towards the PC/Console end of things, including the official final out-of-beta release of the actual game, there were some gems in there regarding Minecraft: Pocket Edition. We already knew some of this would be coming but it's nice to here is again. One of the big things people have been asking when it comes to Minecraft: Pocket Edition is whether survival mode would be coming or not. Well now that the official PC/console version of Minecraft is finally out for the masses to enjoy, the Pocket Edition is now the prime target for some updates which was stated earlier last month. The general roadmap for Minecraft: PE was to get it out onto as many Android devices as possible, then bring more of the PC Minecraft content into the mobile game , such as survival mode.
Less than two months after getting its official 1.0 release , Minecraft is getting another update this week, to version 1.1. The update adds a few fun features to the game: sheep that now eat grass and will re-grow their wool, enhanced bows, apples that fall from trees ("Newton would be proud," the video announcing the update says), and different-colored eggs for spawning pigs and other animals. New languages might be the most important change, though: Minecraft now supports German, French, and Swedish translations.
