Google's excellent webmail app Gmail appears set to relaunch with a new interface, according to a video caught on the company's YouTube channel by long-time watchdog Alex Chitu this morning . The new version of Gmail looks a lot like the recent refresh of Google Docs, but adds big avatar photos of your contacts to your inbox display and surfaces advanced search functionality through a simple interface, among other changes. The new email reply interface looks like comment posting on Facebook.

Debunking SAML myths and misunderstandings
As a newcomer, the SAML specification is being compared to existing single-sign-on technologies, authentication services, and directory services. SAML is the first of what likely will be many authentication protocols to leverage Web infrastructures, where XML data moves over HTTP protocols on TCP/IP networks. The OASIS group developed SAML as an XML-based framework for exchanging security information. SAML is different from other security approaches mostly because of its expression of security in the form of assertions about subjects. Other approaches use a central certificate authority to issue certificates that guarantee secure communication from one point to another within a network. With SAML, any point in the network can assert that it knows the identity of a user or piece of data.Two of the most common topics of questions regarding Google in general, and Google Apps specifically, are security and privacy. Cloud computing is een hype die in Nederland een stuk lastiger van de grond komt dan in de Engelstalige wereld. Niet alleen hebben Nederlanders een ingebouwde argwaan tegenover gehypte vernieuwingen, er zijn ook heel valide redenen om hier iets voorzichtiger te zijn met de cloud dan in, bijvoorbeeld, Amerika. Tijdens Computerworlds Cloud Event 2010 liet Forresters Onica King ons al fijntjes weten dat 90% van de cloud zich afspeelt in Amerikaanse datacentra, die onder Amerikaanse wet- en regelgeving vallen. Dat heeft voor ons hier in Europa consequenties die niet altijd even duidelijk zijn te overzien. Tijdens hetzelfde Cloud Event gaf Theo Bosboom ( Dirkzwager Advocaten & Notarissen ) een presentatie waarin een aantal juridische aspecten van het gebruik van de cloud in Nederland werden uitgelicht.
