Running Mac OS X's built-in DHCP server - Jacques Fortier

There don't seem to be any good and simple instructions out there on how to use it. Or at least, there weren't any.... until now! The server is called bootpd and does both DHCP and BOOTP. These instructions just describe using it for DHCP, however. To start, you need to create a configuration file for the server. <? This file sets up the DHCP server to run on the interface named en0, which is typically the (non-wireless) Ethernet port. To get more information on editing this file, take a look at the bootpd manfile: To start the server, run the following command: sudo /bin/launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/bootps.plist Stopping the server is very similar: sudo /bin/launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/bootps.plist If you want to create static assignments, so that a given device always has the same IP address, you need to create a file called /etc/bootptab.

Why the best iPad business apps won't be in the App Store

We’ve carefully invited the top executives in mobile to discuss the biggest challenges of the day, which, if solved, can lead to much faster growth in the industry. And at our enterprise session, we’ll have top executives around the table from a number of companies, including Verizon, AT&T, Cisco, Salesforce, Box.net, and more. (If you think you should be part of the discussion, you can apply for a ticket.) Don’t expect to find the core applications that run the pistons of a business as native apps in Apple’s App Store. With a few exceptions, the future is touch-enabled web applications that will bring a more complete version of a vendor’s feature set to any tablet. I’ll say it more explicitly: Native apps are for phones, gadgets and games. The iPad has been in the market for over one year. iPad - iPad in Business. iPad in Business - Profiles.

Six Smart Business Uses for the iPad

Following a recent private viewing of the Burberry collection at London Fashion Week, in-store customers were given access to buy the collection immediately through a custom-built Burberry iPad application. According to Burberry, the app “creates luxury customer purchasing experience,” as well as allows customers to view all in-house created content, like video look-books and films. Now, 25 Burberry stores in 16 countries will offer customers the iPad when they visit the store. “Consumers expect technologies in their lives,” said Pat Martucci, founder and CEO of Incentient, a company that offers iPad solutions to businesses. Lacking technology, he says, customers “hit the hotel rooms, and suddenly they go back to 1965.” South Gate, a restaurant adjacent to New York City's Central Park, was the first restaurant in the city to digitize its wine list with the iPad.
