Thoughts and Methods for Advancing Humanity. The One Chart That Should Scare the Hell Out Of America. The news: The number of young people participating in the American workforce has steadily declined since the turn of the century, and that trend shows no sign of turning around. The damning report comes courtesy of this chart, based on Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Interestingly, while that decline was accelerated by the 2008 financial crisis, it appears to date all the way back to the dot-com bust. The high mark, when 83% of people aged 20-34 were holding down jobs or looking for work, came in April 2000, and compares with a mere 77.5% of young people today. The background: It should be no surprise that young people are opting out of the job market. Debt-ridden recent graduates find themselves confronted with a weak economy that offers few living-wage opportunities, and unemployment remains much higher among young people than it is for the general population.

Solutions to our political situation. Howard Zinn InfoThe following from: Cooperative Working Strategies. Russell Brand: we deserve more from our democratic system | Russell Brand. I've had an incredible week since I spoke from the heart, some would say via my arse, on Paxman. I've had slaps on the back, fist bumps, cheers and hugs while out and about, cock-eyed offers of political power from well intentioned chancers and some good ol' fashioned character assassinations in the papers. The people who liked the interview said it was because I'd articulated what they were thinking.

I recognise this. God knows I'd love to think the attention was about me but I said nothing new or original, it was the expression of the knowledge that democracy is irrelevant that resonated. As long as the priorities of those in government remain the interests of big business, rather than the people they were elected to serve, the impact of voting is negligible and it is our responsibility to be more active if we want real change. The only reason to vote is if the vote represents power or change. When students, perhaps students who had voted for him, rioted they were condemned. I'd vote for that...sharing! We are an.
