Skills® the online autism solution. Minnesota Autism Center to Begin Using Skills(TM) to Treat Individuals with Autism. (PRWEB) July 09, 2012 The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD), the world’s largest provider of state-of-the-art, early intensive behavioral intervention for individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) announces Minnesota Autism Center (MAC) will begin using Skills™, CARD’s online autism solution, beginning August 1, 2012. MAC staff will receive four days of Skills™ training as early as July 1st. Approximately 250 children and youth affected by ASD will benefit from the behavioral health treatment program.

“MAC currently services individuals ages 2 to 21 throughout the state of Minnesota through a variety of programs,” says MAC’s Executive Director Kathyrn Marshall. “Skills is aligned with our curriculum in that the program tailors to meet the individualized needs of each person. We are excited to begin using Skills and feel confident it will help us continue to provide effective care and support for those affected by autism spectrum disorder.”

I kind of wanted to do the same thing but I didn’t, which meant that the teachers mistook me for a neurotypical like them, which meant that the first thing I got to learn about Kimba was that “he just tried to throw a chair at me.” I learned a lot of other things about Kimba in the next few days.

I couldn’t sit within four feet of him, because he would attack me—he didn’t like anyone except his aide, and he went after her pretty regularly too. Here’s what I learned about Kimba over the next three years: he is incredibly intellectually gifted. Kimba and I, now, spend most of our time in lifeskills together. For three years, Kimba and I have stood (often literally) hand-in-hand, united, in our very different pain and very different ways, against a world designed to shut us out.
