Happy Flower Decoration. This is a pattern/tutorial to show you how to make this Happy Flower wall hanging. You can read more about the design and making of the original decoration in this post. I'm using a cotton yarn to make this decoration, it's Rowan Handknit Cotton, a fairly robust DK weight yarn which I work on a 4mm hook.
I love using this yarn for decorative projects as although it is soft and lovely to work with, the resulting crochet tends to be quite stiff and holds it's shape well. Plus aren't the colours scrummy?! Before we begin, a little summary of the basic stitches. I'm writing using UK crochet terms :: sl st [slip stitch] :: insert hook, yarn over, pull the loop back through the stitch, then through the loop on your hook. dc [double crochet] :: insert hook, yarn over, pull the loop back through the stitch (two loops on hook), yarn over and pull through both loops on hook (note :: this is equivalent to the US sc stitch) OK.............here we go...........................................

This is a fantastic project for beginner knitters bored with scarves – just don’t be scared off by the double pointed needles, which are very easy to use once you get the hang of them. By knitting in the round with DPNs, you only need to know the knit stitch (no purling) and there will be no seams to sew. Pattern is for sizes Small[Medium, Large]. Ten minute no-sew recycled t-shirt bag! Tutorial time! I got a gig teaching a recycled t-shirt project at the library a few months ago, with a request for a recycled tee bag – the only bags I’d made from tees in the past had required sturdy sewing, and I didn’t want hand-sewing to be the only thing holding the bottom closed in a class version of the bags, so I started brainstorming about some kind of hand-sewing-friendly or no-sew bag idea…. and here’s what I came up with! The simplest version of these bags is great for smaller tees, or the more light-weight kind of girl-tees – just turn the bottom of the shirt into a drawstring and tie it closed! As you can see, even with a not huge tee, this will still leave a significant hole in the bottom of your bag, but for purposes like grocery shopping, this size hole shouldn’t really matter… But to make smaller holes, just make more than one of them!

You can double knit a stockinette scarf, and it will lay flat instead of curling. Color knitting will be reversible, showing a negative of the image on the back of the work instead of floats. How is this possible? Double knitting produces a fabric with the right sides showing on both sides of the work. This technique is fun to do and produces a thick fabric that is ideal for winter accessories, hot pads, and there are even patterns for double knit sweaters! Cast on Cast on with double the number of stitches The cabled cast on is great for double knitting because it creates a flexible edge. Cast on with yarn held double You could also use the cast on of your choice, but with the yarn held double. How To Mix Chalkboard Paint in Any Color. We love using chalkboards as backdrops for displays and parties (like this one here!). So we were super excited to learn that you can create your own custom colors-and it's really easy! We first learned how from Martha Stewart whose tutorial you can read here.
She recommends that you use latex paint, but we tried it out with acrylic paints with much success. Here's how you too can create your own chalkboard paint... This is my favorite thing to do with my little scraps, and since its Scrap Buster month over at Sew, Mama, Sew, I made a quick tutorial so you can make your own. This pillow cover is 16" square with an envelope back & the design possibilities are endless! I added some pillows I’ve previously made with this same method at the end of this post. Happy Sewing! You’ll Need: 1. Scraps, enough for the tree trunk and the leaves. 2. 3. 4. Iron your fabric scraps onto your appliqué material according to the directions on the appliqué material. Now with scissors cut out your trunk and leaf shapes. When you get all your leaves cut out, tear the backing appliqué paper off the leaves and trunk. Then you can arrange them how you want on your pillow front. Once your design is how you like it, press with an iron over each spot for a few seconds making sure not to bump anything out of place.
Lay the backing pieces right sides down onto the pillow front over lapping the centers. Pin around the edges well.
