From Argentina With Love: Medialunas--Sweet Crescent Rolls. I know I've been away for awhile. A loooong while. Will you forgive me? I won't bore you with the details, but to make up for it, I'm giving you a long-awaited, quintessentially Argentinean recipe--medialunas. The medialuna is the Croissant's cousin from the south--a little smaller and a little sweeter, and the tastiest to wake up to. Puff pastry is not as complicated to make as its reputation, it just takes a long while, just like any true love, to get to the good stuff. The name, medialuna, has a celestial sort of romance all its own--literally, it means 'half moon', bringing to mind the 'moony,' sweet days of a new love.

Which is just how I feel when I'm in Argentina, and have an excited flip-flop in my stomach--I'm about to start my day with medialunas! The few that are left get rewrapped until late afternoon, a post-siesta snack. Medialunas, in my mind, have reached an almost heavenly status of foodstuffs. As the saying goes, 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder'. Medialunas 1 egg. Blueberry Banana Bread - Java Cupcake. There’s something so hearty and comforting about a bowl of warm, cinnamon raisin oatmeal. But after making oatmeal raisin rolls, I may never make a bowl of cinnamon raisin oatmeal again. The oatmeal ante has been upped. The oatmeal raisin rolls have a striking resemblance to cinnamon rolls with raisins, but because they’re made with whole-grain oats and use far less butter and sugar, I told myself they were a healthy cinnamon roll. Exactly. The rolls combine my love of highly textured, really chewy, moist bread and pair those qualities with the rolls I can buy in the Dutch grocery stores when I’m in Aruba, known as muesli rolls.

Since I love that recipe, and because I also adore oats, raisins, and cinnamon, I wanted to create a roll that combined the best of both worlds. If puff pastry, croissants, and challah are on one end of the bread density spectrum, these rolls are on the other. These are fabulous hearty, chewy, and soft rolls, full of texture from the raisins and oats. Ingredients: Greek Yogurt Pumpkin Dark Chocolate Chip Bread. It’s almost as much fun to say as it is to eat, and with the arrival of autumn, I couldn’t stop thinking about taking my usual recipe and kicking it up a notch with the addition of pumpkin – so, of course, I did. Making monkey bread has always brought with it feelings of nostalgia for me, which makes it one of my favorite sweets to share with family and friends. In fact, the day after I made it, I invited a good friend over so that I could share it with her, along with some apple cider – a lovely way to spend an autumn afternoon, if you ask me!

The three-day odyssean journey (with failures along the way): chocolate babka | love.life.eat. Note to self: read a recipe twice and then a third time. You have to know that I spent two hours last night making the PERFECT Danish pastry dough. I was ecstatic, triumphant. There might have even been a Breakfast Club-inspired fist pump. Yet, something gnawed at me when I went to bed last night, but I ignored it and fell into a blissful slumber. Until 5AM this morning, when I woke with a start and realized that I had misread “freeze” for “fridge,” and my babka dough had started to rise in the fridge overnight. Normally, for other kinds of dough (e.g. brioche, cinnamon bun dough, etc) this would have been a good thing, but not for babka. At 5:08AM this morning, I re-read the recipe, raced to the fridge, and witnessed one dough rising. But I digress. Since I tend to bake dough better in the evening, I couldn’t get great pics of the process, so I snapped some key interior photos from the cookbook, which was my crucial guide in understanding how things should look.
