הקדמה הספוגים הם קבוצת יצורים המונה כ- 5000 מינים, סביב העולם. רובם ימיים. הם ככל הנראה הקדומים בין הרב-תאיים, ופשוטי המבנה החיים כיום. הם משמרים ארגון תאי שבו כמה תאים מבצעים מספר רב של פעולות , ותאים דומים אינם מתחברים ליצירת אברי גוף.

For convenience we adopt this term to include representatives of various invertebrate phyla, when each page presents the different phyla, classis or even sub-groups within the same taxonomic group. The most primitive worms are the Platyhelminthes (flat worms) , which lack the main feature of the more advanced groups - secondary (coelomic) space.

Several hundred species of crustaceans inhabit the shallow habitats of the Red Sea, from the coastal rocky shore to the deep sea. Most crustaceans are tiny, planktonic species, but several species reach a size of > 30 cm. Among this group you will find many species of Lessesian Migrants, who crossed the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean Sea, where they spread along the coasts.

בין חסרי החוליות מהווים האצטלנים את שלב הקפיצה האבולוציונית לעבר בעלי החוליות. הופעת מיתר הגב, הכורדה, בקבוצה זו בעידן הפליאוזואי בישרה את התפתחות החולייתנים בעידנים שלאחריה. לא במקרה שרדו יצורים אלה בים בלבד, ושם הותאמו לצורות תזונה שלא היו שונות בהרבה מאלה של הספוגים, הדומים להם מאד בהופעתם החיצונית.
