180 días en la clase de Sra. Rutherford | a #180blog To reflect on my teaching & celebrate the learning in my classroom, I will try to post 1 picture a day for the 180 days of the school year. | Page 3. Day 1: team building Crazy start to the year so just now blogging… not technically day one but I only count the days I blog and I have three rules for this blog- 1: I can skip days to maintain sanity 2: I have to be positive in my posts 3: I don’t have to write a book each day, only a caption. We did a team building activity today in saber pause (advisory). It was fun to learn a little fact about my kiddos. Day PD1: Parent Night! We had a get together with AVID parents and students today after the first day of staff development before school kicks off.

Day S13: road trip to staff development! Here’s my AVID colleagues and I getting back from our road trip to a tutorology path training for AVID. Day S12: modeling strategies in staff development I love when staff developers lead by example and instead of lecture have you do the work you’re learning and will be using in your class. Sketches by my district director, Cristina Oxtra. Talk about an exciting summer afternoon. Day S9: planning meeting. Have it your way – Aventuras Nuevas.

**Updated 23 Jan. to correct a link in the handout.** Our next unit in the novice classes is based around food and hunger when we resume classes on Wednesday. Though we are technically beginning new classes, the vast majority of my students were also in my class in the fall, so we lose very little time to the transition, and will start with new material on day one. Our first goal will be “I can say what I want on my sandwich.” Over the course of the unit we will discuss popular foods from around the world, but to begin I wanted to start with something that is familiar to students.

In the town where our school is located, there are two national chain restaurants: Subway and McDonalds. So without further ado, here is what we will be doing on our first couple of days in class. Spanish Webquest One of my favorite reasons for using webquests is to have students discover information on their own.

I can take a step back and provide any necessary help, but the students are the ones doing all the work. They are completely engaged. Here are my favorite webquests: Casa Webquest: Students learn the vocabulary for rooms of the house by exploring actual houses from Latin America. Ropa Webquest: In this lesson, students use the website for the Spanish department store, El Corte Ingles, to discover for themselves the meaning of vocabulary such as camisa, camiseta, and 11 other clothing words in Spanish. Spanish-English Online Dictionary: Students learn how to use an online dictionary through this webquest that guides them through looking up words in both languages.

Futbol Webquest: Soccer is a popular sport with students in my school, so I decided we would learn about Spain’s La Liga, by having students follow a team all year long. Like this: Like Loading... Related Futbol.
