One of the complaints that I’ve heard quite often lately about Firefox is that the default Firefox theme in Vista just doesn’t feel like it belongs with the rest of the eye candy. After doing some browsing around today, I’ve figured out some repeatable steps to make Firefox look a lot like IE7. On to the eye candy! =) Here’s some screenshots of Firefox and Internet Explorer 7 running under Vista. The main difference between the two is that IE uses transparancy for the top toolbar and Firefox doesn’t. In order to achieve this look, the first thing we’ll need to do is install a few addons to Firefox. The first add-on is the great theme called “myFirefox”… the author did a really great job. There are 3 different ways to invoke Showcase: In a window: the content will be shown in a separate window. Inside a tab: the content will be shown inside a tab of the invoking Firefox window. On the sidebar: Showcase will use the current Firefox window sidebar. Also, it can be invoked in 2 different modes: Global: Showcase will show tabs from all currently opened Firefox windows. Local: only tabs from the invoking Firefox window will be shown.
Next there's a table with the default keyboard shortcuts for each of the modes: To change the shortcuts, you may use the Keyconfig extension. When you hover your mouse over a tab, a popup preview window will show up with a thumbnail of the page. Note that you can actually interact with this thumbnail, links are clickable and you can use the scroll mouse button. You can easily change the size of the popup preview as well by using the Tab Scope Options under Tools \ Addons. I’d advise changing the wait time up a bit, otherwise the popups will really annoy you as you try and mouse over the interface. I have always had tables and benches that sat on the floor and what I love about this system is that is so solid - no wiggling or correcting for a wobbly leg, or uneven floor.
