Practical talks upon structural wood-working. Second of the series. Free garden chair plans page 1. Introduction This garden chair is an extremely simple design and is probably one of the easier chairs to construct.
Building this garden chair merely requires that you cut and drill all the pieces of lumber according to the detailed plans provided and then assemble all the pieces. Once all the lumber pieces have been cut and the holes marked and drilled, simply line up the holes in the various pieces (according to plan), place the bolts in the holes and the chair frame will take shape automatically!
Below is a drawing of every different piece of wood used in this project and a cross-section drawing showing all the pieces in place. Each drawing shows angle cuts, dimensions and the placement of any bolt holes. To help you even further, the drawings are followed by further explanation, information about lumber sizes and notes regarding measurements. Here is a plan which is presented in response to a high number of requests for an authentic Morris chair reproduction which can be made in home workshops.
The chair has wide, bandsawn bow arms and the back adjusts to 3 positions. Morris chairs first became popular in the early 1900's as part of the Stickley / Arts & Crafts movement. Now you can use our plan to build this classic piece. Overall size: 33" wide x 38-1/2" high x 33-5/8" deep. There are no instructions for upholstering, so that aspect is left to you. This is a blueprint style plan which is heralded by beginners and experts alike as being a pleasure to work from because all parts are printed in full size -- all joinery is shown in actual size, curved workpieces are all in full size, therefore you can measure and trace straight from the drawing if necessary.

"Arts and Crafts" This weekend I started a reproduction of a Charles Limbert design #240 Lamp Table, the original was produced circa 1903.
Unlike Gustav Stickley, Limbert was not concerned with humble simplicity of design, his furniture borrows heavily from the prairie style of Frank Lloyd Wright and the designs of Charles Renee MacKintosh. I really like Limbert's designs, I've made one of his large tables, the Double Oval Table, and two of his smaller tables, the #244, and the #238.
I previously made this table for a friend, but I have always wanted to have one for myself and luckily, I had just enough quartersawn white oak to complete this table. When I was done with the rough cuts I only had 2 feet of 4/4 quartersawn white oak left. The plan for this project came out of Robert Lang's More Shop Drawings for Craftsman Furniture , these books are a great resource for anyone interested in making authentic Arts and Crafts style furniture.
