THOUGHT PATTERNS: In black and white. I've long admired this Aubrey Beardsley drawing... ~ The Peacock Skirt, 1894 ~ I love his style of drawings, done in black ink (they were influenced by Japanese woodcuts) and always somewhat grotesque and decadent. Beardsley was an Art Nouveau illustrator, most famous for his drawings for Oscar Wilde's play, "Salome" (I believe the The Peacock Skirt is one of them). I've just researched a bit more about his work and found some truly wonderful drawings that fully speak to me.

He was only 25 when he died of tuberculosis. {click on the images to expand and see the detail} ~ The Lady at the Dressing Table ~ I love the way he uses black and white. . ~ The Wagnerites ~ ~ A Nocturne of Chopin ~ So many wonderful shades of gray. ~ A Repetition of Tristan and Isolde ~ ~ Miss Winifred Emery ~ The efect achieved by the contrast of the strong lines of her face and gentle lines of her lacy cotton dress is amazing. ~ Lady Gold's Escort ~ The faces of his characters are really wonderful. . ~ La Dame Aux Camelias ~ Arts and Crafts Style Home Furnishings & Accessories|Mission Style Decor.
