I like to sit in the sun on the beautiful stone slab benches across from the Blue Bottle Coffee kiosk in Hayes Valley here in San Francisco. It's just a short walk from my house in an alleyway, a not-so-secret spot, slightly off the main strip. I also love to have lazy breakfasts beneath the tall ceilings, light streaking through the massive windows, in their cafe at Mint Plaza . I've known there was a Blue Bottle Coffee book in the works, and each time I go, I find myself uttering the same nine words, usually with my mouth full - I really hope this recipe is in the book. In addition to their coffee, which I'm more than happy to brave a line for, I have a list of go-to favorites from their beautifully concise and inspired menu.

Heath Bar Cookies Recipe

“OMG, these are the best cookies I’ve ever eaten in my life,” I mumbled to mom the other day, mouth full of cookie, one hand reaching for another. “Would you please get the recipe from Claire? Puhleeezzzz?” Claire is my mother’s friend, a lovely woman in her 80s, recently widowed, who brought my mom these fabulous cookies for a book club gathering. I couldn’t figure out what was in them that made them taste so good. I recognized some chocolate and a few nuts, but what was the rest?
http://tastykitchen.com/blog/2011/10/scalloped-hasselback-potatoes/ “Scalloped” is an attractive word, isn’t it? When I hear it I think of several things: first, there’s scallops, as in the seafood—totally delicious. Then there’s the scalloped shape that can live on the edge of a pair of shorts or on the collar of a woman’s blouse—always pretty and dainty. And of course scalloped potatoes also comes to mind, which carries my imagination to a land of crispy potato skins drenched in a sea of cheese and cream. I can think of no better place to exist, actually. So when I came across TK member Shelbi Keith’s recipe for Scalloped Hasselback Potatoes , I knew we were going to become fast friends.

Nutter Butter Peanut Butter Pie

Nutter Butter- Peanut Butter Pie If you hadn’t heard already, our food blogging friend Jennie lost her husband Mikey last week. It was a sudden and unexpected loss. The kind of loss that is unfair in every way. In the midst of grieving for her lost love, she asked the world to make a peanut butter pie (Mikey’s favorite) and share it with someone they love. In response, the world made pies .

Chocolate Chip Lava Cookies

I am so in love with these darn chocolate lava cookies! What is it about a warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie stuffed with decadent, rich, melted chocolate that makes it so irresistible?? Especially when topped with vanilla ice cream.
October 2, 2010 My mom is obsessed with keeping a stocked freezer, but I guess I don’t really take after her, because my freezer tends to be relatively empty, aside from random containers of stock/ramen broth, frozen dumplings and pierogi. I admit, I store buy frozen chinese dumplings and pierogi for those times that I just don’t feel like cooking.
