Desde este punto de vista, el Turismo Responsable no aparece como un tipo o modelo específico de turismo, sino como un movimiento a favor de la sostenibilidad de la acción turística que se articula a través de una amplia gama de acciones que podemos sintetizar en tres ejes: a) establecer modelos de desarrollo turístico sostenibles y específicos para cada zona de destino, respetando las variables sociales, culturales, económicas y medioambientales autóctonas; b) denunciar los impactos negativos que el turismo compuerta o puede suponer en las sociedades locales y en su entorno, y a la vez implicarse y apoyar a los colectivos afectados; c) valorar y reclamar la responsabilidad de turistas, tour-operadores, anfitriones e instituciones públicas para favorecer modelos turísticos sostenibles [J.Gascón & E.Cañada, "Viajar a todo tren: Turismo, Desarrollo y Sostenibilidad", Barcelona, 2005].
