Printers' Type Cases. Type cases, manufactured from around 1890 to the 1960s, are wooden trays divided into sections to hold the various letters of a typeface.
All type cases have been finished by hand and have been fitted with a hanger. Well constructed (because metal type is heavy), the cases were stored in vertical racks, grouping typestyles into families.
