A Stitching Odyssey. October 2012. ...too many tops!

October 2012

I seem to be in a sewing rut of late, top-of-the-tops type of rut - am I able to actually sew anything but blouses, tops and shirts???? Can't quite remember back to my pre-top days of yesteryear, but I do love a new top. Now I am not crazily into the quick and easy tops, though in saying that the Sorbetto did fall into that category. And I have been known to actually enjoy sewing plackets full of button holes and buttons, with collars coming a close second. But my wardrobe needs to now make room for it's latest boarder - Simplicity 1886 - yes, a top pattern! Now I did the usual PR pre-check as to how everyone went with this pattern, and only 2 others have given it a go - I am sure I have had it in my stash for a fair time.

The verdict - I love it! So, down to the nitty-gritty details. Simplicity also has you constructing a small narrow hem on the flounce - I opted for a rolled hem. The basic shell of this pattern is great, and I will be trying a few more.

Helloooooo 2013! Wow, 2013!

Helloooooo 2013!

I can't believe it. It was only 13 years ago that we were welcoming the new millenium. I feel so old! Wahhhh! So, what are my sewing goals for this year? I don't want to feel that I need to make a certain amount of items per month like I did last year. Resolution #1: Quality, not quantity! When I first started sewing, I only made stuff for my kids.

Resolution #2: Sew for people other than myself! I've made quite a variety of garments for myself, and looking back over the projects I made last year, there are definitely some styles that suit me and some that don't. Resolution #3: Figure out what styles and colours suit me best and stick to them! Like many sewists, I have an enormous stash of fabric. Resolution #4: Use fabric from my stash and only buy if necessary for a specific project! Bring it on!!!! Girls in the Garden. Sewin' Steady.

The Election Day Dress : School of Moxie

I am definitely a left leaning woman and I choose President Obama. (Hopefully I keep all of my readers for choosing my candidate publicly.) I relate to him more, agree more with what he’s trying to do for our country, and despite Romney talking about entrepreneurial endeavors (which is near and dear to my heart) I just don’t think Romney respects my vagina enough nor the actual reality of being a worker bee in Corporate America. Obama inherited a cluster f*** and has been making some really great improvements for our country despite the immense challenges before him. I was really inspired by our First Lady’s speech at the Democratic National Convention. Well… I do know how to sew! Allison.C Sewing Gallery. SHE SELLS SEA SHELLS. Tilly and the Buttons.
