The two people, a private school teacher and a radio presenter, now face 30 years in prison for charges under terrorism laws. 7 Social Media Challenges You Will Have to Overcome. Social media is an opportunity. It is also a challenge. It’s often said that social media is perhaps one of the most powerful modern age business tools. With power comes responsibility and social media is no exception to that rule. From a business perspective, social media opens up a new world of opportunities and it’s exciting as well as crucial to keep pace with the latest changes on the social media front. I’m often asked about what I consider as the biggest social media challenges that businesses need to overcome.

Privacy First and foremost, you need to learn that users won’t tolerate any privacy violations. Transparency It’s the opposite end of the tunnel. Diversity The USP of social media is that it is borderless. Business Integration Very often, businesses find it difficult to integrate social media with their main line of operations. Convergence The convergence of social media and mobile is inevitable. Relationships Relationships mature over time. Douglas Idugboe. Jeffbullas. I don’t know whether you have started to notice that a lot of people are wanting help with their cows and ducks on Facebook (and I am finding it a touch annoying as I am not fond of cows),this activity is due to a very popular online game called Farmville. What prompted me to write this list germinated when the few Farmville updates turned into a stream and then became a raging torrent.

On Facebook you can actually turn this stream off in the settings section which is a good thing as I have stopped counting sheep when trying to go to sleep and started counting bovines… by the way Mashable have a post that shows you how to block those fascinating Farmville updates. For those of you who are statistically minded… the Facebook-platform game FarmVille has So what have the settings for controlling Farmville streams have to do with not sharing certain things on Facebook. 30 Things You Should Not Share on Social Media My New Book is on the “Best Sellers List” on Amazon! The StumbleUpon random website browser has become a popular way to explore the web, having won more than 15 million loyal users. Now those stumblers may be using StumbleUpon in a whole new way – that looks surprising search-like. Going Specifically Random On August 17, StumbleUpon announced the release of a beta feature called the "StumbleUpon Explore Box. " It's a new sub-section of the website where you can enter a specific interest into the search box and "stumble" over to a related website that's been evaluated by the StumbleUpon community.

The StumbleUpon toolbar stays at the top, allowing you to stumble onward to a lineup of additional related sites. The standard features of the toolbar, including the option to add reviews, share content on Facebook or Twitter, and interact with other StumbleUpon users, remain intact. Here's a brief video that demos the beta feature: Is StumbleUpon introducing a "search engine"?

Do cultural differences impact tribe behaviors in #socialmedia? Of course they do, but I am wondering about how. This question has been top of mind for me all week after I have witnessed some pretty horrible tribe behavior in the Dutch social graph. I wont go into the details but some influential individuals actively were bullying and making fun about other people in very inappropriate ways.

As I am mostly active in the international social graph I was surprised to see this, as usually the atmosphere in social media is very positive. Being of mixed cultures myself I am very aware of the different nuances cultures have. We all share the fact we are human beings, but aside from that, we are very different in many ways. So I have posed a question on Quora “How do cultural differences impact tribe behaviors in #socialmedia?” I would like to invite you to share your views, experiences about this. Click here to answer the question on Quora Looking forward to hearing your Digital Thoughts on this subject! Thanks Thomas Like this: Like Loading... The Alphabet Route To Social Media Success. When I was writing my recent guest post for Judy Dunn at Cats Eye Writer about how ‘old fashioned’ values were still important in our social media activities it led me to give a lot of thought about the how’s and why’s of my own activities. The result of my cogitation is this alphabetical rundown of all the simple things we need to think about to have a successful and enjoyable Social Media experience. Authenticity -Â You (hopefully) have a personality, let it shine through, be genuine, open and honest and people will recognise and admire that. Don’t hide behind a corporate image and name, let your brand be you, if you do it right the rest will follow. Be Bold – Dare to fail, if you don’t then you will never achieve anything! Publish that post you are proud of but aren’t sure anyone will like, the worst that can happen is that no one will look at it and you will learn from the experience. Engage with that Blogging or Tweeting ‘giant’, you might be amazed at how friendly they are.

Yippee!! The DNA of a Social Media Expert. 10 Reasons Why Google+ And Twitter Can Work Together. My dear old friend Twitter, I feel I owe you an explanation and an apology! You had noticed that I hadn’t been seeing as much of you these last couple of weeks and I have to admit that the reason is that my head has been turned by that new Google girl who just moved in down the road. I realise now that I have been spending far too much time with her and neglecting you. She undoubtedly has considerable charms, which attracted me to her in the first place and while I can’t give her up completely, I wanted you to know that you will always remain very dear to me and that you will be seeing more of me again in the future.

I was lucky enough to be one of early adopters of Google+ and I have to say that I immediately found it easy to use and a comfortable place to be. However, as you will gather from the apology, although my time has been dominated by the new toy, I have come to realise that my old friend Twitter must remain as an integral part of my social media strategy. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Imad Naffa: Social Media- Don't You Da... The DNA of a #SocialMedia Expert. “There ain’t such thing as a social media expert!”

Is probably the first thing you thought after reading this headline right? I fully agree! It will take years still before we can really talk about experts in social media. However I am intrigued about what the DNA will be of these people. What will be the combination of knowledge, skills, instincts and experiences such an expert should have? In order to get a few more views on this other than my own I posed the question on Quora.com “What in your view needs to be in the DNA of a Social Media Expert?” “no one should give themselves the title ‘expert.’ Note: in every instance I will say HE in this post, I obviously intend HE/SHE What’s in the name?

I’d like to approach this from the name “Social Media Expert” and dissect it from these three words we have combined to describe this so much talked about professional. Social Media Expert First and foremost he will never see himself as an expert, guru, ninja or anything like that. A Tool To Guide Your Social Media Strategy. I must admit this article has been quite a struggle for me to write. The sheer complexity of the social media phenomenon is hard to come to grips with and boil down into simple terms what it really means to build relationships online between a brand and its Twittering consumers. But here is my first stab at creating a tool that will guide the creation of a Social Media strategy. As my digital thoughts usually form themselves through various aggregated sources of inspiration, so does this one pick and compile from various articles and experiences I have been exposed to recently.

In one of my previous articles, “Do not misbehave!! Designing a brand identity in social media”, I explored the notion of designing a brand identity in social media where 3 questions need to be fully understood and answered by a brand before engaging in social media space. Why we do what we do? But I got sort of stuck with trying to answer the third question. This is great!! Please let me know your opinions! Do not misbehave!! Designing a brand identity in social media. In 2008 Mark Churchman and I explored the notion of Brand Behavior in the article How to Make Sure a Brand Behaves Itself published in the Design Management Review of August 2008. We made a case for the orchestration of all brands’ manifestations according to a set of core values a brand lives by next to the more traditional visual corporate identity.

Marty Neumeier, author the Brand Gap defines “A brand is the consumers feeling about your product, your services or your organization.” This basically means that it is the emotional reaction of a consumer when interacting or thinking about a brand. This is the exact same way we as humans relate to each other. Relationships between people are based only for a very small part on appearance. Sure we are attracted at first maybe by how somebody looks, dresses etc, but very rapidly as the relationship deepens it is about WHAT someone does, and HOW he or she does it that determines whether the relationship is a good one, or a bad one.
