Early this year, eMarketer predicted that social media giants like Facebook and Twitter will see their ad revenues ascend. Their prediction is that in 2011, 132.5 million U.S internet users will use the social network monthly. As for Twitter, the number of international users will increase more than that of domestic users. The increase in number of Facebook users is estimated by eMarketer to be 13.4 percent.

People living in the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Qatar, Israel and Bahrain are leading the adoption of Facebook in the region. Over one-quarter of the population in each of these countries are Facebook users. In the last 30 days, Iraq, Yemen, Djibouti, Libya and Lebanon are the fastest growing countries in terms of rate of growth of Facebook users. Some additional key findings of the report: The MENA region is home to approximately a 10th of the world’s Facebook users.
