Mahone Bay Quilt Guild: April 2012

Cathy is renowned in the quilt world (and beyond!) As the Singing Quilter. We were pleased to share this evening with visiting quilters from the Queens Quilters and the Mayflower Quilters Guild as well as friends of Cathy and John's who came to hear their performance. And what a wonderful performance it was! Not only is Cathy a gifted singer but she is a wonderful quilter and story teller. We were all delighted to see her quilts and hear the stories of their connections with Cathy's songs. Cathy and her colour wheel quilt. Cathy shared with us her tiny hexagon quilts and one especially was quite remarkable. These are 1/4" silk hexagons! Cathy also showed us her portion of the World's Biggest Hexagon Quilt, which has a unique setting.

Thanks Cathy and John for visiting us, do come back again soon! After Cathy's performance we had our Guild show and tell which didn't disappoint! Dear Jane. Quilting. I have a part time job now and between that and the store my quilting time is seriously limited. So... I'll share with you one of my favorite, favorite quilts. It's called Scrappy Illusion. I finished it way back in May of 2008. The blocks look like they're set on point but if you look closely you'll see that they're really just pinwheels and 16-patches.

Finding a hobby or craft is a great way to use your spare time. My daughter Lucy is an excellent baker so much so that I have featured her recipes in my blog before. Her talents are driven by her passion to bake well and come up with some delicious bites to eat. I have that very same passion however, for sewing and in particular patchwork quilting. It is a wonderful craft which can be enjoyed by all ages with the bonus that the results, beautiful pieces of artwork, can be exchanges as gifts or gorgeous pieces to feature in your own home. I have always enjoyed patchwork quilting but like many things in life finding the time to sit down and enjoy a craft is often difficult. What I like most about Patchwork quilting is that it can be totally unique and designed around whatever you like, no two pieces have to be the same.

I adore the marvellous sense of originality that a crafted patchwork piece carries. I truly think that patchwork quilting is a tremendous craft to harbour. By. This is another great way to give money as a gift. To make the Dollar Bow Garland you can make as many bows as you like and in any denomination. My folding skills aren’t amazing so I decided on making a simple bow. Start by folding the bill in half length wise. Fold one end of the bill toward the center, then the other end. Accordion fold the center of the bill a bit then smush it together. Cut a length of bakers twine and wrap it around the center of the bill a few times to secure it. Cut bakers twine for the length of the banner.

Emilee loved it! Notions, Supplies & Fabric Links.
