It is easy to understand how a teacher might become frustrated and disillusioned.

It is important to note that the focus in this chapter is on educational technology as compared to technology in education. There are four purposes to this chapter. A Model of Technology Adoption in the Classroom Educational technology is often considered, erroneously, as synonymous with instructional innovation. Although education has witnessed a multitude of both technology and innovation over the past 50 years (Reiser, 1987), the educational system has scarcely changed during that time. The value added to the EU economy directly from IT products and services is around £480bn each year. Computing is a vital part of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). It is also an academic discipline in its own right, underpinned by scientific and mathematical principles. It is the silent `C’ in STEM. Computing is on the verge of collapse in the English state-funded school system. Teaching computing, or just software? Students are not taught how computers work and are denied the opportunity to be creative through inspiring computing activities.
