Standard Architecture's Garden-Wrapped Salford Meadows Bridge Changes With the Seasons. Los Angeles-based Standard Architecture just unveiled plans for a flourishing garden bridge near the Crescent-Oldfield Road intersection in Salford, UK. The timber-clad pedestrian bridge is wrapped in a lattice shell tunnel which acts as a support structure for vegetation. The architects characterized the transition from an urban area to the natural landscape by designing the bridge as a living organism that changes appearance with the seasons. The bridge slopes from the Crescent to the Meadow by following the topography of the area and serving as its natural extension.
The lattice shell envelops pedestrians as they walk through a tunnel covered with vines and other plant species. The bridge curves and bends to bring the adjacent bus top and Old Pint Pot closer to the Meadows entrance and acts as the key element of the Middlewood loop link. Jordan Parnass Digital Architecture. Living and working in under 500 square feet, the client had been pushing the limits of what his apartment, in its current configuration, would accommodate. He’d purchased the studio back in 1999, before the boom of the last decade, and wasn’t anxious to move. But between his office needs and his many toys and quirky art pieces, the apartment was jam-packed and nothing had a place. After walking the space with the client, observing and listening, JPDA established some clear design objectives for the remodel. The first was to get rid of the clutter. This meant storage - and lots of it. The second was to define and organize the functional spaces for cooking, cleaning, dressing and sleeping - lending some visual clarity to the environment. It is dimensioned as a living unit for 3-4 persons and demands practically no maintenance. The construction can be erected by anybody in a short time. The N55 SPACEFRAME is configured as a truncated tetrahedron with an indoor ground floor of approx. 20 m˜. According to needs and economy, the size and configuration may be changed, and extra floors and rooms may be included: it is easy to add to the construction in stages. The entire unit is constructed from small lightweight components which all can be handled without the use of cranes or other heavy machinery.
