"I'm not going to say theres not tension, but I find the tension a very creative one," he says of working with architects and landscape architects. Credit: Noah Kalina In the 1990s, Cincinnati was vexed by a common urban problem: what to do about its downtown core. City leaders knew that Cincinnati deserved better, and that, as the headquarters of several Fortune 500 companies, the community possessed the resources for its own improvement. HR&A, working with architects and planners Cooper, Robertson & Partners, drew up a strategic investment plan and helped establish the Cincinnati Center City Development Corp., or 3CDC, a private, nonprofit development group devoted to the revitalization of downtown.
For 31-person HR&A, this kind of urban turnaround is all in a day’s work. Requiring rigorous financial analysis, world-class design, and sophistication in public policy to succeed, the High Line was a classic HR&A project. Foster + Partners Architects To Conceive One Of The Largest 'green' Urban Projects In The U.S. - Ecofriend.
Foster + Partners architects to conceive one of the largest ‘green’ urban projects in the U.S. Foster + Partners have revealed their plans of an imposing yet enterprising proposal named as the CityCenter DC, right in the middle of the capital – Washington DC. The master plan incorporates an expansive design, which is to spread over an area of 10 acres. Already touted to be one of the largest urban-space related propositions ever been undertaken in the U.S., this ambitiously planned design will also integrate low carbon features. The proposed site borders the main city axis of New York Avenue, and has a good view of the White House. The old alleys and narrow paths between the spatial volumes were in a way cramped, because of the significance of human scale in urban design, back in 19th century.
Finally the mixed space usage will entail high density as well as user friendly, low carbon features. Source: DesignBoom Enjoyed this post? By Amanda Fung Early next year, two luxury condominium towers—the Liberty Luxe and Liberty Green—will open in Battery Park City. The buildings, which will be 33 and 23 stories, respectively, and will feature similar brick-and-glass facades, are being developed by Milstein Properties. More important, the two towers will bring to a close one of the largest and most remarkable development projects in New York City’s history: the transformation of 92 acres of landfill across the West Side Highway from the World Trade Center into a vibrant neighborhood. Today, Battery Park City boasts more than 12,000 residents, 10.8 million square feet of office space—including the headquarters of American Express, Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs— three schools, 35 acres of parks and a 1.2-mile riverfront esplanade.
It’s also a place where people want to work and live. Having said all that, the process was ugly, especially in the early years. Brought in to shut down the project, Mr. $900 million facility prototyped in Second Life now under construction. These are the latest construction progress photos I could find of new Palomar West Medical Campus in San Diego, which is currently under construction – scheduled to open in 2011. When the virtual architectural simulation was completed in early 2008, it attracted the attention of The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Forbes, as the largest and most comprehensive architectural prototypes of a construction-bound project ever built in Second Life ( aLoft and Dedato’s build were big too, but Palomar is much bigger- weighing in at 775,000 square feet).
The virtual prototype was used by Cisco to showcase the facility’s communications features through immersive simulations in Second Life, and was built by Millions of Us. If you know of any more recent construction photos, please let me know!
