When Results Go Bad … Guest post by Willis Eschenbach One of the claims in this hacked CRU email saga goes something like “Well, the scientists acted like jerks, but that doesn’t affect the results, it’s still warming.” I got intrigued by one of the hacked CRU emails, from the Phil Jones and Kevin Trenberth to Professor Wibjorn Karlen. In it, Professor Karlen asked some very pointed questions about the CRU and IPCC results. He got incomplete, incorrect and very misleading answers. Here’s the story, complete with pictures. I have labeled the text to make it clear who is speaking, including my comments. From Jones and Trenberth to Wibjorn Karlen, 17 Sep 2008 (email # 1221683947). [Trenberth]Hi WibjornIt appears that your concern is mainly with the surface temperature record, and my co lead author in IPCC, Phil Jones, is best able to address those questions. Here is the IPCC figure he is referring to, Fig. 9.12, once again with the black lines showing the instrumentally measured temperatures: 6.

W. Like this: Has the BBC broken faith with the General Public? Paul Nurse - Image via Wikipedia Guest Post by Barry Woods It is my opinion that the BBC in broadcasting the BBC 2 Horizon program ‘Science Under Attack’ did not treat the general public in the UK and at least one of the interviewees with the ‘good faith’ that they should be able to expect from the BBC.

After the program aired, I contacted James Delingpole, who was one of the sceptics portrayed in the program and he told me how he was approached to participate by the BBC. “I am making a film for BBC’s Horizon on public trust in science and I was hoping you may be able to help.” – BBC Producer However, the programs underlying message to the general public came across to me as that climate science was under attack by climate sceptics or deniers of science who are on a par with those that deny Aids, vaccines and extreme anti GM environmentalist activists. seven times that of the total natural annual emissions. Bob Bindschadler[NASA]: We know how much fossil fuel we take out of the ground. FINGERS IN PIES... Climate Resistance » Mythologising Monckton. There is only one climate sceptic in the world. His name is Christopher Monckton. This is the only conclusion you could draw from Rupert Murray’s film, Meet the Climate Sceptics, broadcast on BBC4 tonight.

The film portrays Monckton single-handedly attacking the entire global scientific establishment, sabotaging any possibility of climate legislation in the USA, and thereby demolishing any possible global deal on emissions-reduction through the UNFCCC process. Along the way he destroys Kevin Rudd’s administration and the Australian ETS… In Murray’s fantasy, Christopher Monckton is to climate scepticism what James Bond is to the UK. The film belongs to a strand on BBC TV, called Storyville. But Rupert Murray doesn’t just tell a story, he constructs a mythology. I don’t know about you, but over the past few years, I’ve been quite frightened by all the media stories about global warming.

But Murray doesn’t meet them. I’ve seem Monckton’s presentation, and I do not find it convincing. The Revealed Mystery of the Mystic Met Office. I have just received the Met Office's "secret report" and email correspondence with the Cabinet Office from a FOI request I made three weeks ago. The information they contain is quite significant and I hope others who have been working hard highlighting this issue such as Autonomous Mind and James Delingpole will find the following addition useful. God knows this is an extremely serious issue and the only people who appear to have been digging into it have been the bloggers (AM's investigation and analysis can be found here, here and here).

At the turn of the year we heard the revelation that, following an absolutely brutal start to the UK winter, the Met Office had allegedly warned the government in a "secret report" to expect such. The Met Office also claimed that, in part because of the ridicule it had suffered for completely out of sync seasonal forecasts previously, it did not share this information with the public. However there is more to this story that really needs to be aired. BBC became propaganda machine for climate change says Peter Sissons. By Peter Sissons Updated: 09:29 GMT, 9 February 2011 Institutionally biased to the Left, politically correct and with a rudderless leadership. This is Peter Sissons’ highly critical view of the BBC in his new memoirs, in which he describes his fascinating career over four decades as a television journalist.

Here, in the latest part of our serialisation, he reveals how it was heresy at the BBC to question claims about climate change . . . My time as a news and current affairs anchor at the BBC was characterised by weak leadership and poor direction from the top, but hand in hand with this went the steady growth of political correctness. Indeed, it was almost certainly the Corporation’s unchallengeable PC culture that made strong leadership impossible. Concerns: Peter Sissons checks a report for accuracy, but says his time at the BBC was categorised by poor leadership and the fact that journalistic mistakes were not punished There’d be whispers about them.

A glass of water on your desk? Arctic Adds 2000 Cubic Kilometers Of Ice – Despite Reports Of Accelerating Ice Melt. Last week it was reported almost everywhere by the German media that North Atlantic currents were the warmest in 2000 years and melting the Arctic at an unprecedented rate. Labrador and North Atlantic currents (Chart from US Coast Guard) These media reports were based on a study published in Science. The authors write in the abstract (emphasis added): Here, we present a multidecadal-scale record of ocean temperature variations during the past 2000 years, derived from marine sediments off Western Svalbard (79°N). We find that early–21st-century temperatures of Atlantic Water entering the Arctic Ocean are unprecedented over the past 2000 years and are presumably linked to the Arctic amplification of global warming.” I’m not sure what they mean by “early 21st century”. Here’s how Der Spiegel puts it in a report titled Atlantic Current Is Heating Up The Arctic: And Der Spiegel writes: And as things stand right now, just the opposite is occurring.

Needless to say, my comment was deleted. New gates are designated with “NEW! 1. Historic Variation in Arctic Ice. Historic Variation in Arctic Ice Guest post from the Air Vent by Tony B The following is a guest post by Tony B on the history of Arctic ice. I nominated him Arctic ice historian on WUWT when I noticed he had done a considerable amount of research.

Happily he took me up on it and has put a lot of work into this. I don’t know his full background, but I think you’ll see he has an excellent grasp of the historic nature of sea ice in the Arctic. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I placed most of the images in myself from Tony’s references.
