Two professors with UW-Madison’s School of Education will be offering a free online course about video games and learning via a new delivery system in higher education known as Massive Open Online Courses, or MOOCs.

Constance Steinkuehler and Kurt Squire are teaming up to teach a course called, “More than a High Score: Video Games and Learning.” This online class will examine research on the kinds of thinking and learning that goes into videogames and gaming culture. It'll also discuss the benefits and drawbacks of digital gameplay, tensions between youth culture and traditional education, and developments that may bridge that divide. Steinkuehler and Squire co-direct the Games+Learning+Society Center within the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery. Steinkuehler is an associate professor of digital media with the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, while Squire is a professor in C&I. This course is one of four pilot MOOCs announced by UW-Madison Wednesday.

The chap in question, named Lycerius, told Reddit that he's been playing the same game of Civ II in fits and spurts for over a decade.

In Lycerius's world, the polar ice caps have melted 20 times due to nuclear wars and all of the big cities have crumbled. Atlantis Remixed :: Educators. Brain Workshop - a Dual N-Back game. I encourage teachers to engage in their own play, experimenting with simulations thoughtfully, taking calculated risks in the classroom, wading into the chaos, and guiding students towards a more meaningful and relevant study of the past.

What is a Simulation Game? Before jumping into the thick of it, let’s deal with two preliminary points: what is a simulation game, and what are the strengths of simulation games for history education? General Hardware Considerations So much for the preliminaries. There are two main types of simulation games. EclipseCrossword - the fast, easy, and FREE way to create crossword puzzles in minutes.
