Scripture Notebook & Character Studies

We are using the Character Study notebooking pages from NotebookingPages.com. I don't have a set curriculum for what we are doing, I'm mostly making it up as we go along. We are using Nature Corner from My Bible First as the basis for our scripture memorization and character study. Here's a sample page. Our first activity for the week is to copy the scripture for the week into our personal folders.

Another time we made a list of some of the ways that a person can be changed by God. As we work through the Nature Corner book, I'm organizing the scriptures we are memorizing each week in Charlotte Mason Scripture memory system style. I love how something so simple can still be versatile enough to work with a variety of curiculums and subjects. Notebooking gives me the flexibility I need to accomodate the various learning styles and personalities of my large brood, without spending a fortune on curriculum and workbooks. Notebooking allows my children to exercise their creativity, while maintaining enough uniformity that I don't go crazy trying to keep up with what everyone is supposed to be doing. Notebooking is never boring because there are so many options available. Here are a few of the different types of Bible notebooks that we will be using this school year.

The older children (15, 14, & 13) will using Foundations In Romans, an inductive Bible study that I purchased from Simply Charlotte Mason. The Bible notebooks for the middle (11, 10) and younger children (almost 8, 6) are economy 3-ring binders with a decorated cover page taped on the front. More on Old Testament History. Our "real" history is being taken care of by Dad. He reads the sections outlined in the Greenleaf press old testament history guide each morning after breakfast. They take turns narrating the story. Our text is the Bible and the reader of that is Dad. I began these notebooking pages a week or so after they had heard the story from Dad as a fun way to illustrate and narrate what God created on each day. We did a couple of pages a week adding copy work to them to record the story and give more practice to handwriting. The above selections of work were done by my oldest son Max.
