Starring Scarlett: Present from Momma. Months ago, while Scarlett and I were in and out of the hospital every week or so, I started to hatch a plan for something I could make for her in all my "free" time (otherwise known as the time I spent sitting staring at the walls in the hospital). It was shortly after my Pinterest addiction began, and I was eager to try something I had pinned.
Then, one day I saw a quiet book, and I was hooked. I had a quiet book when I was little. It was a fabric book with activities that would keep little hands busy for a while - things like counting, lacing, weaving, shoe laces, buttons, zippers and other gizmos. I saw some wonderful examples here, here, here, here, here and here. Around this time, I bought a basic sewing machine, which I have since used for a multitude of projects, including the diaper boat and Scarlett's birthday outfit (pictures to come!)
It was a long labor of love. I'm quite proud of it, despite it's quirks, and I can't wait until I can start tackling my next project! Amy's Creative Side|Quilt Blog|Modern Basics. Your Christmas gift from me...an apron in an hour! - Stop staring and start sewing! Apron in an Hour tutorial. Well last year I gave my fabulous readers (that means you!) A cookie recipe as my gift (pretty picture of the cookies here at Heather's blog). And since I've received so many requests for a pattern of the apron from my previous post, I've decided to make this tutorial my gift to you.
And you still have plenty of time to use it for some impressive gift giving! This apron is great (if'n I do say so) because it only requires one fat quarter (the floral in this one) for the main apron piece and 1/2 yard of fabric (the stripes of course!) For the waistband and ties. Pleeeeeeease remember, your apron is only going to be as pretty as the fabric you use so be sure to pick some fabrics that you love and you will love the apron you make! Let's get started! Lay your fabric down and make snips (about 1") at 6" and 12". So now you have 3 strips (6" x 44") and one fat quarter.
Snip and rip the selvedge off your fat quarter piece now. Fold your strip in half and press well. Recreate project, dollie vases | A Subtle Revelry. I am completely smitten with dollies this season. I used them to make a hand stitched runner HERE and an adorable cake topper you will see soon. (photos by Jonas Peterson via 100layercake) This may be the simplest idea to incorporate them I have seen yet- wrap a few around clear bottles & tie with twine. If you are feeling adventurous cut strips from a paper grocery bag to add layers for texture. Blessings. Sewing machine cover. This is a project from Fresh Quilting by Malka Dubrawsky – I was really drawn to the off kilter squares. Plus, it was the ideal sized project for me, finished in about two weeks. I think I’ll do more things in this size in the future. Anyways, the design is really great and easy – the best part is that there is a piece of cardboard sewn into the top so that it sits firmly on top of your machine and holds its shape well.
I’ve been meaning to make a sewing machine cover for ages, and I’m glad I finally did! Prudent Baby: DIY's for Small Fries. My New Backyard (and Where to Buy) How to Sew Zipper Pillows with Piping. While working on My New Backyard project, I decided that sewing tons of pillows and cushions was key to keeping it all feeling like an outdoor room and being comfortable while lounging about. I wanted contrasts of different textures, and I knew piping and trim would help tie the colors and feels together, so I made several different styles of piped pillows. Because these cozy poufs would be living outside, I also knew that being able to easily wash them was key to their longevity, so I used zippers to make sure the covers were removable. We showed you how to sew basic zipper pillows (with hidden zippers) and how to sew zipper pillows with sham edges, but I’ve never run you through sewing a zipper pillow with piped edges. So let me show you How to Sew Zipper Pillows with Piping after the jump…How to Sew Zipper Pillows with Piping First I embroidered some designs on my pillows.

One of Ruby's very favorite activities is singing the Monkey and Crocodile song. She thinks it is hysterical and bops along to the song, giggling and grinning.
For her birthday, I made a set of monkey and crocodile finger puppets, and I'd also like to share the template with you. If you are not familiar with the song, here is a copy of the text, as we sing it: We are doing some light birthday celebrations today, but the big shindig is next weekend when we have family in town. Happy birthday, Ruby!
