Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia. It’s one of those capitals that travellers seem to feel the need to get in and get out – fast! But, there is a side to Phnom Penh other than the horrible history of the killing fields and genocide museums.

This is a place where over 2 and a half million people live everyday, and have stories of their own. So lets took a look at a day in the life of Phnom Penh Cambodia: Much of Phnom Penh is focused around the central market Psah Thom Thmey or “New Grand Market”. Asian markets are filled with noise, colour, sights and smells (both good and bad), that you just cant resist. If markets aren’t really your thing – never fear. Most of all, Phnom Penh is a place to go and people watch. Parents picking their kids up from school. Even the trishaw drivers are doing the School Run. Trishaw Driver waiting for a fare. It may be everyday life for these people now, but it hasn’t always been this way… The Khmer Rouge decimated this city.

The last time we were on the streets of Baguio for the festival was 2011—we skipped last year’s and one of us got a tattoo out of boredom instead—but we’re thinking of staying in this weekend and seeing our beloved cold city stage a festival again. Anybody who’s ever had the chance to live in Baguio will tell you it is cheap here. Of course—it’s a university town. For those who don’t have a lot to spare, Baguio can ably give you that warm and fuzzy feeling you thought only fat bank accounts can give. Going up this weekend? The best thing about the little cafes and hole-in-the-wall restaurants in Baguio is they’re cheap but the food isn’t drab at all. Just beside Casa Vallejo (below SM Baguio) is this carinderia called Kainan sa Silungan. Good Taste is very popular among locals and for good reason: you can have a feast for as little as P100, and the bigger your group is, the cheaper your meal becomes.

Wherever you are, there’s bound to be a strawberry taho vendor nearby. Mark your calendars for Panagbenga 2014. Rappler.com Published 12:01 PM, Jan 05, 2014 Updated 12:01 PM, Jan 05, 2014 BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – It's time, once again, for the biggest festival in the Summer Capital of the Philippines, to take place. Organizers have set the Grand Weekend Parade – featuring street dance and flower float competitions – of the Panagbenga Flower Festival in Baguio City on February 22 to 23. The theme for Panagbenga 2014 is “Inspiring the Community for a Greener Tomorrow,” Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan said. The festival derives its name from a Kankanaey term, which means “a season for blossoming. Rough Guides | Travel Guide and Travel Information. Does travel really teach you anything? Tourists who visit poor countries often say it changed their lives, but do they really learn anything? Photo: AFP “Man, India was such an experience,” the traveller says, sitting wide-eyed at the café. “I mean, just the poverty, you know? It’s just so in-your-face. It really gives you a new perspective on things.” The other traveller nods, carving his knife through his eggs Benedict. “I know what you mean,” he says.

They both nod thoughtfully, before getting back to their breakfast. I guarantee that this conversation, or a variation of it, is taking place somewhere in the Western world at this very minute. Most travellers tend to have that same unshakable belief in their own worldliness and wisdom which, to be honest, annoys the hell out of everyone else. “I am sick of all of these little privileged rich kids visiting Third World countries and then coming home to their comfortable middle class life to brag about how the experience changed their life. I’m as bad as anyone. Of course it does. What Travel Can Teach You About Life.

Travel really is a life teacher and there are a number of reasons why taking a year off or even a few months to travel the world on a career break can actually help you in your future life. I have to admit, I am addicted to travel and everything it represents (isn’t it evident by how much we write about travel!) But as many people have said before, when you travel you will never be the same again and here is why. Travel has taught me so much Patience This is the number one lesson travel has taught me over the years. When you living in a western lifestyle you are fortunate enough that everything is scheduled out and things run like clock-work. Well, at least most of the time. Plane from Xam Nuea in Laos Patience is the one skill you very quickly learn when you travel overseas. Appreciation Now that you have slowed down and you can see everything else around you, rather than just buzzing through life, realise you can learn to appreciate other cultures.

Elise & I in Cambodia Adapt Be Spontaneous. Travel Goals. In the winter of 2004 I wrote down a list of 101 goals involving every aspect of my life. Four years later, after 18 months of traveling, I went back to this list and was surprised to see that I had accomplished nearly 25 major life goals within that 4 year time frame. One of the goals was to have my own website. Another goal was to live in New York City where I currently reside. If you have a few extra minutes, I highly recommend sitting down and making your own list. It is never wasted time outlining your dreams. I was inspired to do this by a guy named John Goddard (I never met him, but found him on the web randomly). I reserve the right to add to this list at anytime.

Crazy Shit. Three Reasons I Love Traveling Alone. For me, the most frustrating part about traveling alone used to come at the end of the day, when I’d call my beau at home.

“How was Machu Picchu? I saw your tweet and it looked incredible,” he’d say, eager for a full rundown. I would have absolutely loved it if he could have been there with me in Peru, or at the Three Gorges Dam in China, or across from me at dinner in London. But he wasn’t. And if you’ve ever tried to express a life-changing experience after an exhausting day on the road, you know how impossible it is.

“It was great,” I’d reply. “You feel like you can touch the sky.” I’ve come to learn that it’s better to wait until I get back to really share my experience. Here are three reasons I love hitting the road solo: 1. 2. 3. What’s your favorite thing about traveling alone? 54 Fantastic Everyday Scenes From The Philippines. 10 Reasons Why You Should Travel To The Philippines - Just One Way Ticket.

Visiting the Philippines is big fun. Perfect beaches. Friendly locals. Beautiful nature. Plus, it's a cheap country to travel, you'll get a great value for your money. I've been four times to the Philippines and spent in total more than eight months there and hell... In my experience, from all the Asians I have met, Filipinos are the most kind and friendly people, extremely welcoming and curious, but also respectful. I don't feel like a walking wallet in the Philippines and getting in touch with locals and becoming friends with them is much easier over there than in other countries.

Philippines islands and beaches are ... When I noticed all the giant shopping malls in Manila, I had a feeling that Filipinos must be crazy about shopping. Anyway, shopping in the Philippines can be quite a worthwhile experience. Philippines is home of a diverse range of birds, plants, animals and sea creatures. They also have a monsoon season over there and loads of rain between June and October. 8 Steps To Freedom: How I Quit My Job And Traveled The World - Just One Way Ticket. Photo Credit © Edgar Moskopp "One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it's worth watching.

" (Gerard Way) November 20th, 2008 was the first day of my new life. I would never live my old life again. I was sitting at Frankfurt Airport, holding a green box of homemade cookies in my hand that my lovely Italian grandmother (may she rest in Peace) had given me for the trip. Actually it all started even earlier. Well, maybe I should point out that going single and alone to the Maldives is not exactly the best idea. The Maldives were such a paradise. But back to my story... I loved KL. "I'm on a trip around the world... " I have to admit I felt jealous that most of them were so much younger and better looking than me, sun-tanned in sexy muscle shirts.

That was the exact moment I decided to quit my job and travel the world... Step outside of your comfort zone. Miracles happen only to those who believe in them. How I Quit My Job and Became a Full-time Travel Blogger. It didn’t happen overnight. That’s for sure.

It’s not like I woke up one morning and just called it quits. Well, actually, it was kind of like that. I woke up one dreary morning, and as I was forcing myself to get up, I caught something painted on the ceiling — my future. Of course it wasn’t real. That morning I decided to quit my job. I never planned to be a travel blogger. My whole love affair with plane tickets and seat sales started in 2007. I began going on weekend getaways more frequently.

Some people — braver people — would just file their resignation right away. Here’s the process that I went through to quit my job, presented through the questions I asked myself and what I did to address them. 1. Passion has become a buzz word since I hit mid-twenties. For the rest of my life? My point is — If you’re not happy, do something about it. 2. Of course, you need to work, one way or another. What are your skills? Why online?
