Port Talbot

It had a population of 37,276 in 2011.[1] History[edit] The earliest evidence of humans in Port Talbot has been found on the side of Mynydd Margam where farming ditches can be found at an age of 4,000 BC during the Bronze Age. There were Iron Age hill forts on Mynydd Dinas, Mynydd Margam, Mynydd Emorch and other mountains. Historically in Glamorgan, Port Talbot grew out of the original small port and market town of Aberavon, which belonged to the medieval Lords of Afan. Aberavon was first established by Caradoc ap Iestyn (son of Iestyn ap Gwrgant), on the instructions of Robert Fitzhamon, after the Normans' conquest of south Wales by the end of the eleventh century. CRM Talbot's daughter Emily Charlotte Talbot (1840–1918) inherited her father's fortune and became just as notable in the development of ports and railways.

Governance[edit] Physical Geography[edit] Sport[edit] Port Talbot Steelworks. Port Talbot Steelworks Port Talbot Steelworks is an integrated steel production plant in Port Talbot, Wales capable of producing nearly 5 million tonnes of steel slab per annum, making it the largest of all three major steel plants in the UK and one of the largest in Europe.

Port Talbot Steelworks

The majority of the slab is rolled on-site at Port Talbot and at the Newport Llanwern site to make a variety of steel strip products. The remainder is processed at other Tata Steel plants or sold in slab form. The works covers a large area of land which dominates the south of the town with the blast furnaces and steel production plant buildings being major landmarks visible from both the M4 motorway and the south Wales Main Line when passing through the town. History[edit] Blast Furnace #5 The site at Margam is made up of a number of plants across a large site, developed since 1901. Port Talbot steelworks[edit] The original works were built by Gilbertson, and situated south of Port Talbot railway station. Today[edit] Portal:Wales. HOME PAGE. Historic Swansea.
