Evolution is Not Just a Theory: home. An Index to Creationist Claims. Creationist claims are numerous and varied, so it is often difficult to track down information on any given claim. Plus, creationists constantly come up with new claims which need addressing. This site attempts, as much as possible, to make it easy to find rebuttals and references from the scientific community to any and all of the various creationist claims. It is updated frequently; see the What's New page for the latest changes. Since most creationism is folklore, the claims are organized in an outline format following that of Stith Thompson's Motif-Index of Folk-Literature. Sections CA through CG deal with claims against conventional science, and sections CH through CJ contain claims about creationism itself. This collection is intended primarily as a guidepost and introduction. The explanations are not in depth (with a few exceptions), but most responses include links, references, and sources for more information.

The Day We Learned. 1000 Years of Creationist 'Achievements' Observed Instances of Speciation. 1.0 Introduction and Acknowledgements his FAQ discusses several instances where speciation has been observed. It also discusses several issues related to speciation. I have divided this FAQ into several sections. Part 2 discusses several definitions of what a species is.

Part 3 explains the context in which observations of speciation are made. Part 4 looks at the question, "How can we tell when a speciation event has occurred? " The descriptions of each observation come from the primary literature. I consider this FAQ incomplete. 1.1 Acknowledgements Back in April of 1993, Rich Fox asked a series of questions related to species and speciation events. 2.0 Species Definitions A discussion of speciation requires a definition of what constitutes a species. 2.1 The Folk Concept of Species Naturalists around the world have found that the individual plants and animals they see can be mentally grouped into a number of taxa, in which the individuals are basically alike. 2.5 Why This is Included.

Is Evolution Science? Evolution. 1585 One a Month. One a Month Eleven-year-old Kara Neumann died of diabetic ketoacidosis on Easter Sunday, 2008. Like the man in whose name her parents killed her, she died agonizingly slowly, over the course of a few days, due to dehydration and shock. Unlike what her parents believe to be true of the man in whose name they killed her, she did not come back.

Over 170 million people worldwide are afflicted with diabetes. Happily, the vast majority of them are lucky enough not to be children of the approximately half-million Americans who believe that all disease is an illusion created by the Devil, and that it is therefore sinful ever to seek medical attention under any circumstances. There have been, in the United States in the last 25 years, 300 established instances of a child’s having died an entirely preventable death due to parental refusal on religious grounds to seek — or even to allow — treatment.

It would be uproarious if it were a joke, but it is not one. What we can do is talk. Kent Hovind - Analysis of Kent Hovind (Dr Dino) Five Major Misconceptions about Evolution. Five Major Misconceptions about Evolution Copyright © 1995-1997 by Mark Isaak[Last Update: October 1, 2003] large part of the reason why Creationist arguments against evolution can sound so persuasive is because they don't address evolution, but rather argue against a set of misunderstandings that people are right to consider ludicrous. The Creationists wrongly believe that their understanding of evolution is what the theory of evolution really says, and declare evolution banished. In fact, they haven't even addressed the topic of evolution. (The situation isn't helped by poor science education generally. Even most beginning college biology students don't understand the theory of evolution.)

The five propositions below seem to be the most common misconceptions based on a Creationist straw-man version of evolution. Evolution has never been observed. "Evolution has never been observed. " Biologists define evolution as a change in the gene pool of a population over time. Conclusion. FABNAQ. FABNAQ (Frequently Asked But Never Answered Questions) Copyright © 1992 by Tom Scharle 1. Abstinence Only. Arguments. The problem with using scientists' words to support religious beliefs. - By Michael Weiss. Science traffics in the great unknowns, admitting that it has far more to learn than it has to teach. That hasn't stopped some from attempting to enlist it in the defense of religion. The pope puts out an encyclical trying to split the difference between evolution and the Book of Genesis. Intelligent design makes a mockery of both the method of induction and metaphysics. And scientists who use deistic language to describe the infinite mysteries of the cosmos are made out to be water-carriers for ancient dogmas—perhaps none more so than Albert Einstein.

Yet a recently unearthed letter should cool any further desire to conscript him as a believer. The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. When the letter was made public, many of the faithful reacted with casuistry or anger. Judge says UC can deny religious course credit. Common Misconceptions About Evolution and Creationism. Common Misconceptions About Evolution and Creationism Here are a few things that people tend to confuse, both about Evolutionary Theory and Creationism, including definitions, status and implications.

Evolution narrows a student's perspective on life. Students should be exposed to alternatives to Evolution, like Creationism. This is totally untrue. How can you say that?! This is a common misconception. Evolution is a dogma, just like Creationism. Believe it or not, some people actually claim that Evolutionary Theory is faith-based, rather than grounded in science. 1. 2. 3. 4. (Source) Ahah! No need to "test" Evolution.

As an aside, even if we can't directly observe macro-Evolution, the two processes are driven by the same mechanism. Life just couldn't have happened by random chance! Amino acids have been observed to form under conditions like those of Earth many billions of years ago in a lab. Furthermore, there is no part of Evolution which says, "There is no God. " This is untrue.
