Improv Hat and Cowl Patterns. Earlier this week, I posted my selfish knitting projects. Both the hat and the cowl were a super easy knit, and in a couple evenings, I had a new matching set. I jotted down some notes as I went, and as promised, will share them here. I will most likely get around to putting these in PDF format to have available on Ravelry someday, but for now I will just post them here on my blog. After all, there needs to be some sort of benefit for being a loyal reader, right? These patterns are relatively simple and quite suitable for a new knitter. If you have not yet knit in the round, challenge yourself to do so. You may feel like you are all thumbs when you start, but by the end you will have it down! **A general note about the amount of yarn used: Joe gave me 5 skeins of Ella Rae Latte(from Center Street Knits) for Christmas.

Improv Hat Yarn:100 g bulky weight yarn(I used about 1/2 skeins Ella Rae Latte) Gauge:19 stitches and 26 rounds= 4 in(10 cm) over stockinette stich Switch to larger needles. Tilting Tardis Cowl. Cashmere Cowl No. 2 - Lace Rib. We're having a bit of a Cashmere Cowl craze at the shop lately, so I thought I'd create one for myself. I'm known for knitting almost everything in either stockinette stitch or garter stitch (I am often asked, "don't you get bored?? " The answer is NO, I do not get bored, in fact I love it!) , but I decided it was time for me to make a something a little more complicated. I chose this Lace Rib stitch for my cowl because it was simple enough to be methodical and easily remembered, but created a beautifully detailed fabric.

How can any knitter resist a stitch pattern called "Fisherman's Rib"?

The name evokes all our most romantic knitting associations: rugged men in densely cabled sweaters materializing out of the fog, abeam a windswept Scottish cliff. Luckily, Fisherman's Rib is as beautiful (and practical) as its name implies, lofty, springy, and super cozy. But, let's face it, most of us aren't as rugged as your average fisherman. You will rarely hear a fisherman say anything like, "It's lovely, but maybe a little bit scratchy, don't you think? ". So for the rest of us, I used the Fisherman's Rib, but not his yarn. Instead, I took this opportunity to return to one of my very favorite yarns, The Fibre Company's Road to China Worsted.

The Materials The Fibre Company's Road to China Worsted, 65% Baby Alpaca, 15% Silk, 10% Cashmere, and 10% Camel. Springtime Bandana. I've been making regular visits to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden this March to check on spring's progress. The month started slowly with the first spindly yellow wisps of witch hazel and gained momentum, finally delivering the bursting buds of the dogwoods. I made this Springtime Bandana to celebrate these early spring efforts. It reflects the very tip of a daffodil bulb pushing up out of the earth and the millions of tiny bright green dots twinkling off of every twig of every tree.

Alchemy's Haiku mohair and silk blend is an amazing yarn for capturing nature's beauty. Its rich hand dyed colors are reflected by the silk and softened by the mohair. To add to the complexity of color, I striped a soothing seagreen with a bright acid green. The Materials 2 skeins of Alchemy's Haiku, 60% Kid Mohair, 40% Silk. Dolores Park Cowl. Gloria Cowl. Cashmere Cowl. One of my all-time favorite patterns is the cowl, which is technically just a knitted tube. But, when I slip it over my head it becomes a softly draping beautiful necklace that I want to wear every day from December til March. This is the perfect travel project - it has so few ingredients! I knit my cashmere cowl as Nick and I travelled from Seattle to Portland and back again, crossing the mouth of the mighty Columbia River.

Ruffle lace scarf : It's a Stitch Up: Original patterns and knitting resources.

Ruffle lace scarf A corkscrew scarf in medium weight mohair, knitted lengthways with simple yarn-over increases. I’ve wanted to knit a corkscrew scarf for a while, but couldn’t find an example with enough interest in the stitch pattern. I chose purl ridges with yarn-over increases, creating a lacy, textured knit that works well with mohair. I added silver lurex thread, held with the main yarn, for a subtle sparkle in the icy blue. Lurex thread is available from the Handweavers Studio in Walthamstow, London for just £0.50 for 5g (plenty for this project) – they do mailorder! Don’t be alarmed by the stitch count of the final rows. When you’re lost in the limbo of 1000 sts, remember that the you’re only knitting one 100 g hank, so it can’t go on forever! Pattern © 2010 by Jennifer L. Jones click here to download pdf When I was in Europe last year, lacy crocheted scarves were all the rage.

They were typically worn bundled up under a coat, making the exact stitch pattern impossible to discern; but that hardly mattered, I could tell it was some kind of lace and they looked great. Volunteering at Blogathon ATX, I brought some luscious red yarn I'd found on sale, figuring I'd write a blog post about finding yarn on sale. One of the things I love best about this scarf is the beaded tassels on the ends. Finished Size approx. 47 x 16 inches Yarn worsted weight, at least 160 yds. Zoz Cowl Pattern » Untangling Knots. I had a hard time coming up with a name for this pattern. I thought about calling it Zzzs because the stitch pattern looks sort of Z shaped but I wasn’t really happy with the name.

Sometimes I read numbers as letters and the other day when I looked down at the ball band to the yarn I used for this, I read “Zoz”. It just kind of stuck. Zoz is a cozy cowl featuring a migrating ribbing that is broken up by eyelets. The ribbing gives it a little more structure when it’s tucked into a coat and the eyelets help prevent the alpaca from being too toasty. I've been looking at them for a while on Flickr and on Ravelry, but have never knit one. That all changed last week. My sister called me and told me she had decided to knit a gift for a coworker who had recently lost her second sister to breast cancer. I just can't imagine. My heart breaks for her.
