I've gotten a few requests for the Wager's Hat I made for my friend Pam for Christmas and so I'm going to post it here - the best I can remember. I think I wrote it down somewhere (how many stitches to cast on and then increase but as usual, I can't find it!) But I'll give it a go! I think the stitch is based on Barbara Walker's Wager's Welt pattern but I'm not so sure. Wager Hat You will need: Bulky yarn (about 140 yards) I used a little more than half a skein of Lion Brand Homespun yarn since I didn't want Pam to have to worry about washing wool when she's got all that chemotherapy to worry about!

Julia and I had seen a few slouchy hats in the clothing shops at the mall and I figured this would be easy to make. I had the perfect yarn for this project -- the gorgeous Tanis Fiber Arts yarn I picked up at the Waterloo County Knitter's Fair in September. Julia loves orange and this yarn has the most beautiful shades of that colour. Too bad the photos can't really do it justice. I include the pattern below for your enjoyment.

I wanted to buy it, but as a knitter could not convince myself to pay $28 for a knit hat that I could probably just make myself.

So I made it....and here it is. It turned out a little bigger than I wanted and I used cotton yarn instead of the acrylic mohair that the store hat was done in, but these are minor details...the hat is essentially the same :) Adult medium or large (hat size is determined by needle size: brown hat uses size 8, while yellow hat uses size 9) Circumference: 17 ½ inches (medium) , 22 inches (large) Medium hat: Large hat: Blue Sky Alpacas Dyed Cotton [100% Organic Cotton, 150 yd/137 m per skein]; Color: #605 Cumin For medium size: 1 set US #8/5mm double-pointed needles 1 16-inch US #8/5mm circular needle (optional) For large size: 1 set US #9/5.5mm double-pointed needles 1 16-inch US #9/5.5mm circular needle (optional) Stitch marker or safety pin Tapestry needle Medium: 16 sts / 28 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch.

Basic Earflap Hat « Otherwise known as FO #93. I had a skein of Pastaza in my stash that I didn’t know what to do with, and I’d toyed with knitting hats to send to this program in the fall. I relied heavily on this pattern when I started knitting earflap hats, but I changed up a few things and rarely use a pattern any more….but I wrote this one down as I knit it up. (Note that in the pictured hat, the earflaps are 4″ and the main part of the hat is 4″. I changed the pattern to reflect what I discovered when finished — the flaps are a bit too long, and the length would be better used as part of the hat proper.) Supplies: about 100g of heavy worsted weight yarn (I used Cascade Pastaza, but you can use any yarn that knits to gauge)at least three DPNs and a matching 16″ circular needle (I used US8, but again, you can use whatever knits to gauge)one stitch marker Gauge: 3.5 stitches per inch in stockinette stitch Ear Flaps CO 7 stitches.

Knit straight until piece measures 3.5″. (Confused? Block and lay flat to dry. Last-minute slouch | madelinetosh. When the contractions began in earnest, I distracted myself by knitting a hat, wishfully thinking that it would help me weather the labor pains. It did, until we got to the birthing center... But there is a time for everything, and so after I delivered my little munchkin, I spent a few hours working on this "bad hair day" hat in my hospital room.

Now be forewarned - this may end up being a gigantic hat - perfect for me and my thick long hair especially when I am having a bad hair day, so if you know you've got a bit smaller head than I do, maybe cast on 10 less stitches :) Yarn: Lamb's Pride Bulky (Brite Blue) 160 yards or so, about 1-1/3 skeins Needles: US 10 16-in circulars or DPNs US 11 16-in circulars or DPN Using sz 10 needles, CO 60 sts Work 1X1 rib (k1, p1) for 5 rows On 6th row, change to sz 11 needles, k1, p1 INCREASE ROW: 7 - *K1, M1 Repeat * to end of row, M1 (120 sts) 8 - K all around Repeat 9 - 12 7x or until desired length of hat.

Quick Cable Slouchy Hat | Azure Knits. This is a pattern I had made to teach my student how to make her first cabled hat, so I made sure it was not intimidating. Very quick to knit, so great for gifts. I have used a bulky alpaca yarn so it had a fair drape and a pom-pom was too heavy, but it may work better if you use wool. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++*Note*I have originally posted and recommended size #10 needles for the body, but it seems like many people have been getting a less slouchy result. If you want to get a slouchy hat for sure, it might be better to use size #11 for the body. I don't have a specific gauge, but the fabric for the main body should be somewhat loose and have a bit of a drape. If your swatch is closely knit and sturdy, your hat WILL become a beanie.Another note is on the *K3M1* increase; if you do chose to use KFB, watch out where you do that, since if you do *K3 KFB* the number WILL NOT match.PRINTER FRIENDLY VERSION Materials Needed: US7 or 8 for Brim Directions: Establishing rows:
